2001 BMW 740 IL 185K miles The Good, The Bad, the Ugly Up for your consideration is a 2001 BMW 740 IL. This car has been amazing to me but now it is time to go. It now needs help and I have neither the time nor patience to make the repairs myself. The Good: This flagship model is the long wheelbase for extra space in the rear. Heated front and rear seats Heated steering wheel Large display navigation system Good leather, no rips or tears Bridgestone Blizzak tires on Sport Edition rims. Only two winter seasons on these tires and as I work from home, that's very little driving on them. Service history in a 3-ring binder Newer brakes Newer front struts and steering linkage Newer Alternator New Fog Lamp assemblies New Windshield Recent Oil Change New wheel studs all around New Battery The Bad: Two rust-through spots...one on the corner of passenger front door and one below the trunk lid, center. Rust starting to form along edges of the doors and over passenger rear wheel well. Passenger rear window had started to make some noise so I discontinued its use. Front seat control trim loose from driver and passenger sides Rear cup holder broken Missing pixels in instrument panel (common issue) Misc chips and minor scratches in paint Power steering hoses have slight leak (common issue) Lower exterior trim piece fell off behind driver's front wheel but new OEM replacement included (not installed) The Ugly: The timing chain guides have broken, hence not having the time nor desire to repair. Best estimates put this repair at only $500-$800 in parts but about 25 hours of labor. While not a difficult repair, it is very time consuming. The car was started, noise discovered and ran long enough to take a video for diagnosis and shut off again. It has not been driven since this issue was discovered. In summary, if you are willing and able to make this repair yourself and take care of all the other minor little things, you should have an amazing car with little investment over all. If you buy the car with the intent on parting it out, you should make back more than your investment. It's a win-win situation for you either way! Buyer is responsible for transport of this car by any means possible but it is NOT recommended to drive this car away...it should be put on a flatbed and taken where you want it. No guarantees on whether or not there was further damage to the engine even though every step was taken not to cause more damage by driving it. This is bought as is only..no warranties expressed or implied and no returns. The pictures show how glorious this car looked last summer and the dirty pictures are simply because I can't take somewhere for a wash now. The summer rims in the pictures are not the winter rims on the car currently and will not be going with it. *This vehicle is also listed locally and this auction will be taken down if it sells prior to auction end.
