Vehicle Detail
Hello. If your interested in the early Porsche scene this is the perfect starter car for you. If your already a 912 fan, then please read on. I drive this car 45 minutes each way to and from my office about 4 days a week, it has been extremely reliable (as most 912's are) and I've come to love the stripped out personality of this car. If your going to be in town for all the Porsche events this coming weekend, please come see the car and we can go whip it around the block. I may park it out back at the Willhoit open house here in Long Beach on Friday the 4th, I live about 2 miles away from that shop. Through this car I have gotten to know and love the culture. Starting with John Willhoit, who has helped me a lot over that last 7 years of owning this car. THE CAR:Original engine, trans, date matched wheels and many other parts. Numbers matching, I will order the COA this week. I never needed it, but did verify this early on when I found the car. Engine # 753913Trans #164351 (902/0)Paint code # 6605 Bahama YellowVin# 461627 I have put many new parts on the car. Complete fuel system, except the hard lines which where in good shape. Weber 40's, rebuilt. New tank from Sierra Madre. Willhoit air filters/ covers. Electronic fuel pump currently installed, I needed this to get the fuel from the new tank to the back of the car. I rebuilt the original fuel pump, it's bypassed and on the car. The car has a Petronics distributor on it now, came this way and it has always worked flawlessly. The distributor o-ring needs to be replaced, its leaking. The car does not run hot unless your on a drive at high rpms for more than and hour and a half. It will start to heat up after that, I drive it on the freeway here in Southern California every week and it never gets hot on my commute. The rear piece of engine tin is not on the car right now, which is likely a factor for the heat. I have it in the garage. The only time I've had the engine down was to replace all six of the motor and trans rubber mounts, at that point I was still relatively new to the car and didn't realize it was my chance to get that back piece of tin installed. So, it sits in the garage still. The custom exhaust was built by John Willhoit, this is one unique sounding 912. I will try and get a short video up this week. I also have a Bursch muffler and exhaust system for the car. The car does NOT have heat. The car starts everyday, and has never broke down. Seriously. Every piece of the suspension has been restored. All bushings front and rear. New Bilstein's all around. New rotors, restored calipers (front only, rears are in great original working condition). New tires. The car is set to Euro ride height, aligned and corner balanced at Johnson's in Torrance. The seats are in good condition cosmetically, but they are bouncy and could use attention when the interior finally goes in. The speedometer works, the odometer does not. The clock has stopped working, but all lights and the rest of the gauges work. I have most of the original pieces for the interior, with the exception of the door panels and the handles. Also, I purchased all upper trim pieces and the drivers door upper trim piece I purchased online is the incorrect year. I found the car on Oahu in Hawaii about 6 or 7 years ago. I was there working a lot at that time and had some friends into the Porsche scene who helped scout it out. The story goes (912 vin & registry helped a little) that this car was found under a tarp next to a chicken coup in the mountains. It was brought down to Honolulu where the engine was serviced and a paint shop favor was cashed in. The car was red at this time, and the paint shop took it to its current black color. They also did some down and dirty floor and front suspension pan work. The black paint was polished like crazy, and is generally fairly presentable for a driver. They masked off the windows, it was not a high end production. I love the Bahama yellow that lives under all that paint, but never had time and money to get the car to that stage and do it right. Plus, the black looks pretty good and I like black as well. The big issue with the work that was done that week in Hawaii was the front drivers fender. BOOO. They repaired some corrosion on the door hinge plate and put a fender from a 69 on the car. Which is a bummer. I have lots of pics so you can see. After getting the car back to southern California (it was from Berkley originally - but that is complete hearsay and not documented on my end.) I first went to work on restoring the floor pans and the front suspension. I purchased all the metal from Restoration Design, and used a very experienced lifetime restoration welder in Orange to do the work correctly. Seams pulled apart, stitch welded, drilled out front pan. Correct. Here are a lot more hires photos, with captions for more info. 67porsche912.smugmug.com/1967-Porsche-912/ Please feel free to contact me, I will try and add more info this week as I've certainly forgot information here. Thanks for looking. On Feb-28-16 at 19:16:00 PST, seller added the following information: FYI. I'm moving to Europe, we are going true minimalist style and bringing nothing. I would never, ever sell this car if this opportunity had not come up for me and my family. I live and breathe cars and this culture on a daily basis in a professional sense. This car lives under a cover every night in my garage. It is truly cared for and as close to a member of the family as a vehicle can be. My youngest has made me promise we find another (with a fin) when we arrive in Europe, which I certainly will do. Happy bidding. On Feb-29-16 at 13:05:32 PST, seller added the following information: I've had a couple questions about restoring the heat in the car. The current exhaust system will not allow you to run the J-pipes and heater boxes. You would need those items and a different exhaust. I believe the extra Bursch system I have (which comes with the car) would allow this, but you would need to source the heater boxes and J-pipes. I can help with that if you like, I know of 2 sets in the $500 range for everything. On Mar-01-16 at 12:10:49 PST, seller added the following information: click here to view the other photos Porsche
