Vehicle Detail
Rare 1972 Mach 1 with the original 351C Cobra Jet "Q" code 4bbl performance motor. Extensive professional restoration 2007-2015. Only 1000 miles since restoration, 68,500 total miles since new. This is a fantastic restoration of a solid, original car. Very well sorted. Gauges work, as does the horn (new), wipers (new motor), lights, alternator, etc. I am the third owner. Mechanical: 351Cleveland "Q" code 4bbl, rugged C6 automatic and 9" posi rear end all rebuilt. Matching numbers. Engine rebuild included hardened valve seals for unleaded fuel, mild cam installed, Holley carb. Engine starts quickly and runs strong. No smoke, noises, or other issues. Runs at the correct temp no matter how hot it is outside. No leaks. Pulls like a locomotive with that Cleveland torque and race-ready C6 transmission. This is a fast car; it runs all day on the highway (3:50 gears) without revving it's heads off. New exhaust, fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel sender, brakes, brake lines, upper and lower control arms, ball joints, springs front and rear, bushings, shocks, etc., etc. . Transmission shifts quickly, smoothly and without noise. Posi rear works as designed. The car drives and tracks straight with no vibration. Added during the restoration is a new, functioning, reproduction factory RamAir system which was not available on the '72 351-4bbl (only available on the 351-2bbl that year). Engine and engine compartment look new. Body: All original panels, including floors. Car disassembled during the restoration. Bottom of car has original undercoat in excellent shape with no corrosion underneath. Never in an accident. Body is arrow straight with excellent panel fit, possibly better than factory. All painted panels brought down to bare metal and recoated with base/clear coat in original color that has more shine than factory. No orange peel, absolutely an excellent paint job. Correct satin finish black on hood and lower side panels. Interior: Original optional deluxe interior with gauge package and console. Original color. Looks beautiful. Shifter rebuilt - tight and smooth. Has the optional fold-down rear seat that turns the car into a 2-seater. Updated seat belts - retractable shoulder harnesses like a modern car, but with classic materials and buckles. Much safer. Not a smoked-in car. No smells. Important Original Options: Power Steering and brakes. They make the car a pleasure to drive. See Marti window sticker reproduction in the pictures for a list of all optional equipment. Even has the space saver spare and gas canister. Wheels & Tires: New Magnum 500 wheels with new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. 225/60-15 on 15" x 7" front, 255/60-15 on 15" x 8" rear. If you're looking for a great performance Mach 1 with the "Q" code motor that you can get in and drive, this is the car. There are a lot of rough cars out there with fresh paint that are advertised as "restored," but aren't. This is the real deal. It took a professional shop a long time to restore this solid, excellent condition original car to its current condition. Cost of restoration is well above its value. Speaking of value . . . being conservative, I'd call this car a very strong #2 condition, if a #1 car is one that looks 100% brand new everywhere. The Haggerty Valuation Tool (you can find it by Googling it) lists current values for a '72 351 4bbl Cobra Jet as follows: #1 Concours - $47,700#2 Excellent - $33,400#3 Good - $25,400 Being realistic, my reserve on the car is lower than the #3 number! And this is absolutely not a #3 condition car. Someone is going to get one of the nicest restored, well sorted performance Mach 1's out there at an incredible price. Don't wait - Bid Now! TERMS: Seller must receive a $1000 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours of close of bidding. Balance due within 7 business days. Car is located in Yarmouth, Maine.
