Either way, its going to sell. A growing family necessitates the sale of our 1978 Toyota FJ-40 ‘Mathilda’. We are the 3rd owner of this amazing Land Cruiser. Over the years we have slowly and thoughtfully brought this FJ-40 up to a condition rarely seen today. A recent admirer commented: “Did you just unpack that Toyota from a crate or what…it’s beautiful!” This FJ was manufactured 12/1978, VIN: FJ40297910. Odometer: 39,500. The 1978 model came with 4-speed transmission, upgraded disc-brakes in front, rear 'ambulance' doors and passenger windows that open for ventilation.It's turn-key, ready to go. Pull out choke, pump gas pedal 4x and she starts every time! Transmission shifts extremely smooth and drives with no rattles or annoying noises. A California car it’s entire life: 1st in Palos Verdes, 2nd in Orange County and 3rd in Pasadena, CA. Was re-painted with a Dupont single stage 8-years ago and surface is smooth as glass. There are two small chips on front hood and one on left fender, one 4" scratch on the roof. No rot and no bondo cover up - no replaced body panels this survivor never needed it. Rear cargo compartment shows some wear in inside of bed under paint. Small localized areas of surface rust near rear tail lights, which is common even for a CA vehicle. Dash pad is close to perfect. Seat are excellent. Both doors have new felt window glides, rubber seals and rebuilt interior with new window crank and door lock mechanisms. This vehicle has been kept indoors over the last decade and driven on weekends. Over the last five years, the following upgrades have been performed…all with the intent of preserving this vehicle’s rugged integrity, while also improving it’s legendary reliability. This FJ40 will take the driver to the next adventure and back - whether it is a desert trip exploring for a month or a daytrip to the beach. Goodrich 33" All-Terrain T/A tires, 3k miles total New powder coat finish on original rim Upgraded steel locking center console from CCOT to keep your valuables safe Vehicle has orig. jump seats in back Upgraded CCOT 2” hitch receiver hitch June 2015 - New radiator fluid, engine, transmission, transfer case and differentials oils.Only thing it could use is have part of the headliner re-glued, it is drooping. Windshield washer pump not working. Not a big deal, otherwise everything works! I have the original rear heater element, which was disconnected from previous owner to gain floor space in back. Unlike most vintage FJ40s, this Land Cruiser drives comfortably all day at 65mph, with one hand on the steering wheel. Original to this vehicle is a rare Confer mfg. auxiliary fuel tank + pump which increases vehicle range to 400+ miles - allowing you to fill up primary tank while your drive. ‘Mathilda’ retains the original tool kit, wrench and Toyota jack under the drivers seat! Original owner had Downey Off-Road the spare fuel tank, upgraded to a 1981 2F motor and installed CA compliant, Downey 2-pc. exhaust headers (has CA compliant tag inside hood).Important note to CA bidders: This FJ40, due to the secondary Confer fuel tank, does not pass visual inspection at STAR facilities. This will present a hurdle registering in CA, but you can disconnect it. Please consider this before bidding.
