So. Has Honda done the impossible and built a bike that actually combines all the advantages of modern Japanese engineering with the tactile and visual appeal of the traditional British Singles? Well, yes and no. The engineering is there, no doubt about it. Functionally, there’s nothing antique, clunky or deliberately retrograde about this motorcycle. Everything works in the best contemporary fashion. But it feels British only in respect to the simplicity and dimensional logic of the classic 500 Singles. What it mostly feels is good. But the GB500 is neither a Sportster nor an old British Single. The Honda thumper is its own bike, and the more you ride it, the easier it is to imagine a place for it in your own garage. It‘s the perfect sportbike for someone who wants to enjoy the sensations of a traditional road-going Single without a heavy maintenance schedule or an advanced degree in Machine Shop. Riding an older British motorcycle can be, at times, somewhat like going dancing with your great aunt. You have to take it just a little slow, show some respect and hope to God she remembered her heart pills. The GB500, on the other hand, takes you backward in time, to when your great aunt was young and beautiful and could go all night and drink you under the table. In other words, it’s a new motorcycle and you can ride the hell out of it. I have clear title in hand. Importantly, I have the original Shop Manual, and these are hard to find. Also, I installed a Brand new battery. The bike starts up with the electric start or the kick start. The bike does have updated modern turn signals, but I have the original turn signals. The bike has a Supertrap exhaust, and I also have the original exhaust as well. And, I also have a dual seat that can be installed for two riders. And, I also have a new Plexiglass windshield as well. All in all, this is a great deal. There is one minor scratch on the tank on the right side, but it is difficult to notice unless you are very, very close to the tank. The rear tire has tread life left, but I would consider replacing it. The turn signals and lights work. All components of the bike work as they should. No stories here. See pictures. I started the bike and took a picture of the tachometer with the bike running. I am selling because I don't ride the bike very much, and own more cars than I can drive. The bike is garage kept.
