Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 66 Corvette 427 4spd convertible NOM. I will tell the story as I know it. I bought the car in 2009 from a West Coast estate in Puyallup, Washington State. The information I provide comes from the family. The car was bought from the original owner in the early 80’s. Story is that it was a local car bought originally from a local dealership in Raymond, WA, I bought it from the 2nd owner and had it shipped to the East coast. The story goes that early in the car’s life, the original 427 suffered failure mostly due to the original rear ratio (4:11 FB code, I have complete and in a milk crate) which is why a 1968 CE “counter” engine was installed as well as an AK code 3:36 ratio rear. Sometime in the late 80’s, the 2nd owner did an on-frame restoration including a re-spray of the original color. The car has what I believe to be 61,216 original miles, has the original seat covers. While an NCRS member, I am not an NCRS expert, nor will I claim anything other than what I “think” I know or can see. I will provide the numbers I can find for those who care. When I purchased this car, the last thing I cared about was whether or not this car would ever be eligible for judging. I bought this car because I wanted a rust free C2 convertible, bonus big block and the fact that it flat out runs. I am not selling this car because I need to. This isn’t a fire sale. If you are looking for a car to flip, this isn’t the car. I am the flipper. If you want an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold, this isn’t the car. If you want a car that will perform and bring a smile to your face, read on. The 2nd owner, like myself was about performance over correctness. The counter engine was given to a local engine builder and rebuilt in the early 90’s for performance. It was supposedly dyno’d approaching 500+ horsepower. I have the specs listed later in the description, you can decide if based on parts information given to me if that is feasible. Please visit the 188 photo dump http://www.picturetrail.com/corvettechad66 . I have taken every picture I can think of that would be of interest. If you want me to look for a factory crayon mark, I will. I didn’t ask for this when I bought it, because I didn’t want a car that I would be scared to drive. I am not scared to drive this car anywhere. It runs, and runs hard, sideways if you like. I have the hard top that is original to it, but I can’t get it to fit, nor did I care, because I run this car with the top down whether 100 or 50 degrees outside. I have the original radio and hubcaps to the car. If you want these parts, including the original rear, you are welcome to them, but you will be paying for the shipping costs if shipper needs them. The shipper I used, did not charge me extra, they shipped them in the same trailer for no additional cost, including the hardtop that was wrapped in blankets. Email me through Ebay for any additional information you need after reading this description and viewing the pictures. I believe the right front fender was repaired sometime, but other than that, I see no damage, no rot of any kind that I can find anywhere, “kick-ups, bird cage” etc.Condition- This is difficult for me. I understand that the C2 is one of the most scrutinized, judged, standardized, studied vehicles on the planet, ad nauseum. My definition of nice or not may not have value. This is why I have linked the auction to 175 pictures of anything I thought might be of interest. To me, the car is nice. Is it perfect? No. The car is 50 years old. Other than a battery, oil changes, a tire balance and service, I have done nothing to this car other than wash it, wax it, drive it occasionally and keep it in climate control while under my guardianship. Call me a crackpot, but I never took the butts out of the ashtray from the previous owner out of respect after hearing about how he and his brother used to drive the car up and down Pacific Coast Hwy on weekends. While shiny, the 50 year-old fiberglass has it's blemishes. As mentioned prior, I can see what probably was a right front fender repair during it's life. I see sometime in the 70's a car alarm was installed and the switch remains in the driver's side front fender. The hood and door gaps aren't perfect. The glass is nice but original. The seats could use covers, carpet is okay. I do believe it is an original 427 car, I believe alot of the car still remains original as are the miles on the odometer. It has that 1960's car smell. You'll have to be the judge on what it's condition is and what the car is worth to you. I won't run the car down, but I don't want to overstate what it is. My intention with this car from the beginning was to install fuel injection, power steering and a 6 spd. I couldn't bring myself to do it for some reason, perhaps because it always ran so good. Maybe I will, if it doesn't sell.
