Vehicle Detail

This 1985 BMW M635 CSI is a rare, European model, 24 valve, 3.5 liter coupe. EPA and DOT certified by H&B of Berkeley, California, with upgrades by both H&B and DINAN (all installed by H&B and DINAN). The car sold in 1985 for over $58,000. This is not a US Model M6 and is much more powerful. Road & Track tested the BMW M635CSI in 1985 and provided the following stats: top speed of 154.6 mph, 306 horsepower with a 7,200 rpm limit, 0-60 mph acceleration 5.9 seconds (many more stats available if you want them). I am the 3rd owner of the car. I bought the car in September of 2009 with 119,612 miles. The previous owner was a BMW enthusiast and had two M6's. This car spent its entire life until 2010 in California. I bought the car while living in California and shipped it to Madison, Wisconsin in 2010. The car has always been garaged, even in California, never smoked in, never in the snow, never in salt, always in a heated garage in Wisconsin and only in the rain 4x (briefly) in the last 6 years. The performance upgrades originally installed on the car: DINAN performance chip D900-3420 (also comes with original chip and gear/chip specifications), DINAN cam gear, DINAN short shift, flex disc, DINAN exhaust, DINAN stage 3 suspension kit, H&B valve spring update, and more (I have all the receipts). There are no rips, tears or scratches in the interior. The leather is Buffalo hide in excellent condition. There are no dings, dents or damage to the exterior except for the front center kidney grill chrome pieces which have two small divets from one of our vehicles touching the BMW in our garage. The color is Arctic Blue exterior with Anthracite Buffalo Leather interior and the car came with all options. There are no cracks on the dash. All original manuals (in German) and service records, H&B and DINAN paperwork, sets of keys, toolset, etc... come with the car. All chrome is shiny and appears as new and the carpet appears new. The paint is excellent. The driver's side window switch is a little erratic and is sometimes slow to respond. A/C blows cold. Rims are O-Z Racing and tires are Sumitomo--235 45 17 HTRZII on front, 255 40 ZR17 on rear. The car has a rare alarm (original) with a special key. The displays are mostly in German. Everything on the car works. I also have copies of the Road and Track article and some other published items that will come with the vehicle. The performance of this car is amazing. At the same time, it is very comfortable. Files include the EPA/DOT paperwork and all records from H&B and DINAN back to 1985. Although this car came from California, I can not affirm that the car can pass whatever smog requirements are in place in various States. It did pass CA smog on 9/21/09 and I have a copy of the inspection report. Since then the car has only been serviced by the Madison, Wisconsin BMW dealer and I have not done anything to the vehicle other than the services. The reserve is very reasonable for this car. This is a unique opportunity to own a rare performance vehicle that will never cease to be a joy to drive. I am only selling the vehicle because I need the garage space and I do not drive it very much. Due to the approaching winter, it would be best to have the car transported to the new owner within the next 30 days (the sooner the better). A deposit to hold the car is due within 2 days of the end of the auction, and payment in full must be received prior to picking up the car. I am happy to be available to your shipping company. I do reserve the right to sell the car to a local enthusiast or to end the auction early. If you want someone to inspect the car locally, let me know. The local BMW dealership did a complete inspection of the car during the recent, September, 2015 service. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need any additional information. Thanks and good luck! On Nov-05-15 at 06:24:54 PST, seller added the following information: November 5, 2015: Hi, due to the number of questions on the car, please review the following: The car has a sunroof. There are no tears or damage to the headliner whatsoever. All rubber/weatherstripping is in great condition. The car comes with a spare that appears to be the original BBS wheel. I don't have any of the other original wheels. My wife says that she remembers another wheel for the BMW that is somewhere in storage. If I find it...it will go with the car...although not sure that we actually have another wheel. All interior lighting and exterior lighting works. The Road and Track article is from May of 1985. Included is an original Road and Track magazine. The back page is missing. The rest of the magazine is in great condition. The alarm uses a round key ( I have both originals). The keys include the alarm keys, an original master key with black rubber coating on it...and two silver keys which say "ILCO" For BMW. The paint is all original. The manuals, in excellent condition, include (all in German): "Betriebsanleitung Serviceheft", "Original BMW Zubehor. Gesamptprogramm", "BMW Service Europa". No, I don't speak or read German and have not translated any items. The plaque on the door says "MFG September 1984" and "Imported by Handy & Beck Performance, Inc.". And "This vehicle conforms to all Federal safety and bumper standards..." The other plaque has the Model Number: BMW M635CSi", tire pressure, etc.. All components work as new with the exception of the driver's side window switch...which always works, but sometimes not on the first push. The AC blows cold. There are no cracks in the windshield. The radio is original to the car. I am pretty sure that the speakers are as well..but I have not checked them. The buffalo hide is in amazing condition, not only for the age of the car....but really for any age car. The carpet has no wear and is not faded. When I bought the car, in 2009, from the second owner, it had 119,612 miles on it. Since I have had the car, other than the periodic fluid services, a faulty fuel pump relay was replaced at 120,823 miles, along with a fluid service. At the most recent fluid service, at 124,739 miles, BMW noted and suggested that we keep an eye on: power steering hose leak (no drops on garage floor and they said may just be tightening a component), rear transmission output shaft seal seap or leak (again, no drops on garage floor). Washer pump was apparently not working at time of service (although they show that they topped off the fluid---and I remember it working whenever I tried it). They also suggested at some point to do a valve adjustment since they have not done one since servicing the car. There was no urgency and we made a note to do the work at the next service date or in the spring. From talking to a BMW enthusiast----the parts are minimal in cost and the labor should be approximately 2 hours for the output shaft seal and the valve adjustment. Apparently these are DIY type projects....although I have never worked on this car and probably would not do it myself. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Oh, finally, the pictures do not do the car justice as they were taken with an iphone. There is water on the ground from spraying off the house and washing the car. Additionally, if you see any smoke...it is from a burn pile (leaves). No---it was not my idea to do all these things at the same time as taking pictures of the car. And, really finally, the only reason that I am selling this beautiful car is that our son moved back to the house with his big truck....I need the garage space for a Kubota RTV with a plow....and I have another young one heading off to college next year. The beauty of this car is that it is rare, incredibly fun to drive and will only appreciate in value. If you love to drive and feel what a car is capable of---this is it. This car feels more solid than any newer vehicle that I have had. Thanks for your interest! On Nov-09-15 at 06:26:17 PST, seller added the following information: Hi Guys, there was a question about a federal sticker on the driver's side jamb. I tried to respond to all, but it did not work. The answer is that there is a sticker that is titled: "Bureau of Automotive Repair" and then the vin number and another number followed by some boxes and values/letters in the boxes. I have a picture of it if anybody wants to see it. A BMW enthusiast in CA mentioned that it may be pricey to bring the car back to CA because of some language regarding "continuous operation" in CA. CA is very stringent...so please do any homework in advance if you are planning to bring the car to CA. I can understand the desire to move it back to CA. I am the same way. Winter is harsh! Funny thing in Wisconsin....after a couple of good rains in the spring...everybody brings their cars out and there are classics all over the place. Until winter.... If you have any questions feel free to ask and good luck!
