This is one of the more desirable 70 series Land Cruisers with the 13BT Turbo Diesel motor and the removable FRP top. Some of the others have the less desirable 2LT motor that is known for overheating and cracked heads. The 13BT motor is far superior! This beauty starts with a half a turn of the starter! Strong motor with no smoking, she even speaks to you in Japanese after you start it. Apparently it has an after market toll device installed that speaks to you and says stuff like please insert payment card in Japanese. I left it installed because i think it adds to the cool novelty factor of the truck. The truck is in overall good mechanical shape with no leaks or seeps! Only a few minor things that the new owner should address. Brakes- in working order, but feel a little spongy Tie Rod Ends- Just a tad of play in the steering, I noticed they looked a little worn. Overall this is a great BJ74, but needs to have a few rust spots dealt with. The lower rockers, just behind the door have a small area of rust and the wheel arches do too. The good news is that the back side and inside the panel area are solid, so repair will be straight forward. I stopped by Applewood Auto Body to get a quote and a second opinion. I spoke with the metal fabricator there and was told about 30hrs of labor to repair it. Shop rate is 50.00 an hour, so 1500.00 to cut out, form new patch panels and weld it in. The paint is another 10hrs labor and materials to prep and blend the paint to the OEM white, so another 500.00. overall about 2k to get this cruiser rust free. The rest of the truck is in great rust free shape. The under carriage was at some point undercoated and is in immaculate shape free of rust too. As a side note, the truck is being sold WITHOUT the tires and wheels. Sorry, but they are the wheels and tires for my FJ40. I just can't part with them. The vehicle will come with 5 of the stock wheels (see picture) and a set of (5) 30 inch Dunlop all terrain type tires. The picture of the stock wheel and tire is mounted on my FJ40 with new Aisin hubs, This vehicle comes with a set of gold dial Aisin Hubs, not the Red dialed hub in the wheel photo.
