Vehicle Detail
It’s rare that you can still find unmolested 1966 Corvettes for sale. And few are as original and documented as this one.I am the second owner having purchased this car from the original owner in June of 2007. Other than a several decade old paint job that has its share of touch-up paint and a few new maintenance items, the car is all original. It was purchasednew on June 29th, 1966 from Chevy Chase Chevrolet in Bethesda Maryland. The buyer ordered EZI glass ($10.55), AM/FM radio ($199.10), whitewall tires ($31.30), 4 speed transmission ($184.35), Positraction ($42.15), power steering ($94.80), and something called Porcelainizing for $20.00). Total price was $4,760.00. He traded in his 1964 Corvair and financed the Corvette for 36 months at $89.28 per month. It has lived its life in the Virginia area until I purchased the car. The car has a hardtop which I assume he ordered from the dealer since the cost was not shown on the sales document. The car also has a soft top which has honestly seen better days. The engine is the original 300 horsepower 327 cubic in V8. It runs excellent and starts at the first turn of the key thanks to a newer model Holley carburetor that has an electric choke (I have the original carburetor that will go with the car). The rest of the drivetrain is also original. In addition to having the original powertrain, what makes this car unique is that the frame is incredibly solid and the car has all original body panels. According to the original owner the car had never been in an accident and it has never been in an accident since I’ve owned it. I’ve inspected this car closely and see no evidence of any body damage ever. In April of 2013 I did a complete valve job on the engine (photos available). All of the interior parts appear to be original including carpeting and seat covers. The driver side seat has a few rips but the passenger side seat is in very good shape. The carpet is of course worn and has a stain from a leaking heater core. (I’ve bypassed it). The power antenna still works as does the radio but reception is poor. All gauges work except for the clock and gas gauge which works well from ½ full to full, but is not accurate when fuel runs low. The speedometer generally does not work but on occasion while driving it will bump up to 20 or 30 mph for a moment. All lights, signals and blinkers, both inside and outside are in good working condition. The right turn signal canceling feature does not work.I have the original conditional sales contract, original sales invoice, owner protection plan booklet with Protecto-Plate and the original vehicle owner’s guide. I also have a stack of repair receipts from the original owner. I’ve used this car as a summer driver since owning it. It has been garage kept. Shortly after I purchased the car I had the rear spring re-arched, new brakes, shocks and clutch installed and the engine tuned up. It is ready to use as is or is an excellent candidate for a high end restoration. There are very few that are this solid and original.
