Vehicle Detail

Offered is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible, an old restoration in 1980. The car has been in storage for years and I just got it out, installed new brakes. The car has power steering, power brakes, and power seats, and an automatic transmission. As near as I can tell it has the original engine & transmission, which were rebuilt in 1980. The car was purchased by me in restored conditon.Apparently the restorer turned the mileage back to zero, as it had a couple of hundred miles on the odometer when I purchased it, and now it shows 4625 miles. The chrome is fine, with the exception of minor pitting on the rear view mirror. I understand most of the chrome was NOS back in 1980, including the horn rim. This one still looks NOS. The interior is showing some wear, especially on the driver's seat, which can be seen in one of the images. The paint is poor, showing checking and discoloration. The car looks good from a distance. The T-Bird runs and drives quite well, but I am sure the car could stand a tune-up. I did change the oil. The car is a project car, in need of detailing and painting. I also noticed oil on my garage floor from the differential, and also oil from the transmission. However, the car shifts fine. I put the top up today for the first time in decades to take pictures, and the back window has depreciated and there is one mouse hole on the driver's side in the top fabric. The original jack and base are still in the trunk and the car has the original recessed fuel filler cap. I installed an 8-volt battery, which starts the car as if it were 12 volts, overcomes that '55 hot 6-volt starting situation. Also, years ago I had an electronic breakerless ignition system installed in the original distributor to eliminate the problem of corroded points. From that point on, the car started without any issue over the years. I am told that the state of Connecticut does not offer a title for a car before 1981. I do have a copy of my last registration. The car is drivable, so it can be loaded or picked up, but not currently registered. Payment is to be by certified check or cash.On Oct-13-15 at 08:46:25 PDT, seller added the following information: Good Morning: Just got back from CT Motor Vehicle, and was told there is no title available from the state of CT on a car earlier than 1981. I was told there that all that is necessary for a sale is a Bill of Sale. I do have a copy of the old registration. On Oct-15-15 at 18:01:31 PDT, seller added the following information: Have just received information from the Connecticut Dept. Of Motor Vehicles that there is a form available, called "Transfer of Non-titled Motor Vehicle" (Q-1) which I have sent for. This may help to set a prospective buyer's mind at ease.
