Vehicle Detail
Thank you for looking at my listing. For auction is this 1966 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon. I have owned the vehicle for 2 years and have put a lot of time and a fair amount of money in the car. When I initially purchased it, there was no engine, transmission, front windshield, tailgate motor, headlights, or matching rims/tires. The brakes were shot, and engine wiring was all chopped up. Originally this was a big block, A/C, 3rd row wagon with a Powerglide. As stated, I had no drive train when I got the car. It now has a roller-cam 305 small block out of a 92 Camaro, a newly rebuilt turbo 400 transmission (done by Midwest Converter) and a brand new 3" DOM steel driveshaft going into the original 12-bolt with 3.31 gears. I has also had a new windshield installed, a tailgate power motor from a later Suburban (same parts and easier to source), new headlights, new engine wiring harness, Cragar 15" rims with newer tires (less than 500 miles). All of the brake system was replaced with new units, including all 4 drums, hardware kits, shoes, tubing and lines, master cylinder, and brake booster. So. Does the car drive? Yes it does! It starts, turns, drives, and stops. That being said, its a bit of a chore to drive. The accelerator pump on the carb recently died, but it comes with another quadrajet to replace it. I would strongly recommend trailering the vehicle or having it shipped. Now the $64,000 question... Why am I selling the car? Actually for a few reasons; first of all being that I just have too many cars. I already have a daily driven vehicle, and also have a more "race" oriented car. I don't also have the space for a cruiser. Secondly, I cant reasonably afford what I had planned to have done with the car (air bag suspension, blower through the hood, dark cherry paint job, etc.). Finally, and arguably most important, we are expecting our first child come spring, so a little extra cash to prep the house could go a long way for us. I am an ex-mechanic and currently work for a classic car advertising company, so I am pretty familiar with this car. I know that it is far from a high-dollar car, and is also not a "desirable" body. I have always been a sucker for slightly different/awkward/ugly cars, so naturally this one caught my eye. If you want any additional photos, information, etc please don't hesitate to ask. The vehicle is stored about an hour from where I'm living (Thanks Mom and Dad!) so it may take me a day or two to get them. Now that I've gotten all of that out of the way... Here are the specs:305 CID Small block Chevrolet engine-originally TBI out of a 92 Chevrolet Camaro-Mr. Gasket aluminum intake scoop-Quadrajet carb-Summit racing aluminum intake manifold-Summit racing HEI distributor-Flowtech headers-Summit glasspack mufflers-Power-steering (needs new lines)TH400 transmissionstock TH400 stall3" DOM steel driveshaft12-bolt rear end3.31 rear gears4-wheel power drum brakes15" Cragar knock-offs (no center caps)newer NAPA battery (post-type)New battery cablesB&M ratchet shifter So there it is. I hope if you made it this far you're interested in taking this fantastic wagon to a new home and showing it the love that I can no longer afford. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
