Vehicle Detail
This 1965 Corvair convertible is one of the most dependable Corvairs you can find any where. It competed in and finished every mile of the 2014 Great Race from Maine to Florida (about 2,500 miles; see photos), and it just finished every mile (about 500) of a three-day rally in Chattanooga Sept. 17-20, 2015. It did not require one second of work of any kind for either event. It was driven on the Great Race by the first mother-daughter team to ever compete in the event and they just turned the key and drove for almost two weeks. It was also the first Corvair to ever complete the Great Race. Last weekend, it was used by two executives who flew into Chattanooga for the Coker Tire Challenge (old car rally), and they also just turned the key and drove. If you have ever wanted a mechanically reliable four speed Corvair convertible, this is the one for you. You can fly in and drive it home anywhere in the country. And if you pay me, I will drive it to you anywhere in the country. I will describe the car to the best of my ability from the front bumper to the back. The paint is the rare Evening Orchid but it is not the original color. It looks like it was painted 20 years ago or so. It is a great looking car from 20 feet. Everyone that sees it comments about the car (the engine in the back) and the color. The paint is probably lacquer and is flat looking instead of a bright base coat clear coat (more like it probably would have looked when new). There are a flew blemishes (scratches and chips) and small bubbles. I have pointed out a few in the photos. This is a great car to own and drive and is priced accordingly. It is not a $15,000 show car, but it is a great driving and dependable convertible with a four speed. The reserve is low in my opinion. The bumpers look great and the chrome is very bright. All of the glass is good and the top is very nice (I believe the date code on it is 2006). The interior looks to be the original and there is one tear in the passenger seat about 7 inches long (see photo). It is repairable. The radio and ash tray were removed from the dash for the rally speedometer and will be replaced before it is sold. The four speed transmission is excellent and the car is very quick. It is a 140 horsepower engine with the four carbs, but two of them were disconnected for competing in the Great Race. The linkage was a little sloppy and the car was too quick for my wife. It can easily be reconnected, and the car really flies with all four carbs. It has four new Maxis radial tires on the car (they have around 3,000 miles on them because they were purchased in June of 2014 just before the Great Race). It has a donut spare which is great for saving space (we keep the spare in the trunk). The car is very sporty and the spinner hubcaps just add to that. Yes, the decals were easily removable as seen in the photos. If you have any questions on the car please email me through ebay and I will try to answer them as quickly as possible. This is a great little car mechanically, and it is a very fun car to drive. It is very dependable. There are some minor issues regarding the age of the paint and the dings and scratches that go with a car of this age. But for the price, it is an awesome car. I would just buy it and drive it the way it is. Please contact me if you would like to view the car in person.
