Vehicle Detail

I purchased this car in January of this year from the second owner in Phoenix, Arizona. It had spent its entire life out there in the desert. I had big plans for it but when it got here, I saw how original it was and those plans changed and I set out on the goal of keeping it original as much as possible and just do the work needed to it to get it trustworthy as a daily driver. I would not be selling it now if I didn't need to but last weekend my 79 year old step father asked me if I wanted to buy his car he bought new in 1961. I need to come up with the cash for the sisters to be happy. Below is a complete listing of the condition of this car. I have tried my best to describe it and what all I have done to it since bringing it here to the Kansas City area. I just put 250 miles on the car this weekend, mostly highway, with no problems. Please, if you have any questions about it, feel free to call me at 816-520-2433 any time from 8 AM to 8 PM central time. I will do my best to answer any of your questions. VEHICLE CONDITION BODY: Having spent its entire life in the Phoenix, Arizona area, it is probably one of the most solid 1972 wagons you will find. No rocker rust, no floor pan rust. No evidence of ever having been wrecked. It still has probably 90% original paint and that paint is faded, sun baked. Somebody that can polish it can bring the majority of it back. I am not that guy and wouldn't attempt it myself. The rear tail gate above the wood has been repainted and it looks as if someone had an emblem installed at one time right in the middle of it, kinda like a Shriners round emblem. They removed it and filled in a couple of the mount holes but forgot one. There are a couple of pin holes in the rear facing seat floor pan corner. The right rear door had a dent in it at one time having now been popped out but if you look close you can see an outline of it. I don't believe they used any filler on it. There is an outward push spot, like the jack was rubbing on the inside, pushing out on the right rear quarter panel. Previous owner had the light wood trim hydrodipped and it is in great condition but he must have forgot the four corner pieces behind the bumpers as they did not get dipped. At that time, he replaced the vinyl wood siding. All of the glass is good and it still has the gold tint original front windshield with the antenna built in. Even with what I have just described to you for this body condition, this is one of the best you could ask for for its age. INTERIOR: Original seats, door panels, headliner, carpets. The previous owner found an NOS dash pad and installed it. His installation leaves a bit to be desired and he could have done a little better. The front seats are a bit faded. The rear seat back has two puncture spots, one on each side about 1/4 to 3/8 inch that are repairable. Rear facing seat area still has the factory mat. The rear headliner by the tailgate has some spots on it and it is separated at one of the seams. Not sure if it can be resewn or what can be done about it. Carpet looks good but starting to show signs of age. All door panels are in great shape as well as arm rests. MECHANICAL: When I received the car, I went through it from front to back to make it a reliable driver. Brake work included two new rear wheel cylinders and a master cylinder. Front suspension work consisted of a new drag link and then an alignment. Air Conditioning repair was a new hose to replace a leaking one, a new receiver, evacuation and charge of 134A. A new battery was installed. General tune up was done and an MSD HEI distrubutor and wires were installed. The carburetor was overhauled. This car still has the original exhaust on it from the factory. I had a small section of it replaced as it looked like someone has used a floor jack and collapsed it so I had it cut out. Transmission work included a new modulator valve, a couple of leaky seals replaced, new pan gasket. Drive shaft was balanced and new u-joints. The chrome rally wheels are new, the BF Goodrich Radial TA tires are new. There is presently 1200 miles on this oil change and it is right at 1/2 quart low so oil consumption is minimal and it does not smoke. Overall good mechanical shape that I would trust to hop in and drive probably anywhere. It is missing the radiator overflow bottle cap. WHAT IT STILL NEEDS: The cigarette lighter does not work. The left dash speaker works most of the time but occasionally cuts out. It has a vibration at 65mph up and have not traced that down as of yet. Not sure if it is tire/wheel related or something else. As with any old car, I hate oil leaks. I have most all of them taken care of but there are still a couple drips on the floor. TERMS OF AUCTION PAYMENT: I expect a nonrefundable deposit of $250 from paypal within 48 hours of auction end. The remaining balance is due when you pick up the car or no later than Sept. 30th. The payment of the balance is accepted in the form of a cashiers check during normal business hours so that my bank can verify it, a bank wire transfer, or cash in person. No personal checks. No cashiers checks after banking hours. PICK UP OF CAR: You can pick this up at any time but I will be out of town from 9/9 to 9/22 so plan accordingly. If you are sending a transport to retrieve it, they will not be allowed to get it after dark. I live on a curvy country road so it must be during the day. If you are picking it up in person and plan on trailering it home, please bring your own ramps and tie downs.
