Vehicle Detail

Here's a beautifully well-preserved 1972 Triumph T100R Daytona 500 with only 5115 original miles on it. The paint on the tank, fenders, oil tank and frame is original and in unusually nice condition as shown in the photos. The left side cover has been repainted at some time in the past. There are multiple small nicks, scratches and minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with age as shown in the photos. There are no dents in the tank. This Triumph is complete and in stock condition except for turn signals, which were removed previously. The chrome is good to excellent as shown. The rims present well but have clearly apparent tarnishing. The spokes are all tight and the rims are true. The exhaust pipes nearest the head appear to have been steel-wooled at some time in the past. The rest of the exhaust system is still quite shiny and the mufflers are excellent. The chrome collar at the bottom of the rubber boot on the right side has marks that look like someone may have tried turning it with a wrench. The tires are Made in Great Britain Dunlop K70's and are believed to be the originals. The front tire tread is excellent, the rear shows wear consistent with 5K miles but is still good. Both tires are showing signs of age as shown in the photos and for should be replaced for safe sustained use. I bought this bike for its originality and haven't wanted to change the tires for that reason. I'd only ridden it on short local rides and at meets and I felt the tires were fine for those purposes. Both hold air as new and the rubber is still flexible to the touch. The original seat had a couple of small tears so I replaced it with a high quality British-made metal-panned seat from British Cycle Supply (over $300). I dulled the gold "Triumph" lettering at back to better match the patina of this mostly unrestored original bike. The rear tail light lens is a high quality replacement - the original had a crack in it. I recently installed an OEM Ceandess British-made gas cap. I also replaced the 4 handlebar bolts with British-made Harris stainless steel. The tach and speedometer are in nice condition and work well, including the trip odometer. The horn, brakes, tail light and headlight work. The high beam switch is a little finicky. The transmission shifts smoothly through all 4 speeds and never pops out of gear. The clutch was sticky when I first got the bike running so I replaced the friction plates and springs and clutch cable. The clutch now operates as new. The battery is a sealed unit that was new in February 2014. This bike sat in dry storage for many years before I bought it. The inside of the tank and the carburetors sat with fuel in them. I tried cleaning the original carbs but could never get the idle right, so I bought and installed two new British-made OEM Amal carburetors. The bike now starts easily and holds and idle. I cleaned the tank with repeated flushings but due to concerns about remaining residue and oxidation I've been running the bike with inline filters. I've had no problems with this however a new owner may want to consider coating the inside of the tank. The engine runs clean and fast as shown in the embedded video. I've never had any issues with the engine on local rides however I took it for a half hour ride at sustained 50mph+ to test it before listing it and the engine was running hot by the end of the ride (on a 90-degree F day). I checked the timing with a strobe and it is correct. The oil pump is working properly as demonstrated by the steady return stream visible inside the oil tank. I've been running Valvolene motorcycle oil in it and using high octane unleaded gas. I have not adjusted the valves or changed the stock-spec carburetor jets supplied by Amal. I don't know what may be the issue causing higher-than average running temperature but if the new owner is planning to use this for longer rides it should be looked into by someone with greater mechanical skills than mine. The bike is currently title and registered in Pennsylvania in my name. The title is clear. This motorcycle is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties or guarantees express or implied. I've done my best to describe it fully and honestly and have provided many high resolution images which are part of the description. I've also included a video showing the bike starting and running from cold, and another showing the bike going down the road, both filmed yesterday 8-26. Please ask any questions before bidding. The motorcycle is available for inspection by seriously interested parties on an appointment basis - please contact me through eBay. It is located approximately 1 hour from Philadelphia or Baltimore and 2 hours from New York City or Washington DC. I will not crate or ship this vehicle and prefer pickup by the buyer however I will work with the buyer's bonded shipper as my schedule allows. This Triumph is also being offered privately and I reserve the right to end the auction early. The Buy-it-Now is priced for quick sale. I'm a private hobbyist, not a dealer. Please check my feedback and bid with confidence. The two videos below were filmed yesterday August 26 showing the Triumph starting from cold and going down the road. On Aug-27-15 at 11:25:59 PDT, seller added the following information: This auction includes the original British-made Union ignition and fork lock plus a spare set. The fork lock works as new.
