Vehicle Detail
From high up in the mountains of central Colorado comes a very well preserved, 1964 CJ5 that is largely unmolested. The reason I say largely unmolested is that other than a carburetor change to aid the drivability at altitude, this jeep is all original from factory paint to the factory upholstery. The original Carter Carburetor is included, along with the air cleaner ducting should the buyer wish to return it to its stock configuration. Carter did offer a "High Altitude" kit for the "Hurricane 4"but it was rated rated at 4000 ft above sea level, but when you consider that this jeep lives at 8000 ft, and a ride into the high country may find it 13,000'+, you see the Carter solution is not viable. Re-jet you say? Carter used metering rods instead of jets, so that's why it has the very popular Weber Progressive 2 bbl. conversion which allows re-jetting to accommodate the thin air. This Jeep is also equipped with a "Ramsey" 8000 lb winch that is fully functional and includes the remote control pendant. The 1 year old Goodyear Wrangler tires on the ground have about 1200 miles on them and the spare has never been on the ground. The Jeep runs and drives as it should, good exhaust, 4 wheel hi/lo functions properly, and the lock out hubs are working as they should. A tow bar is included should the buyer wish to flat tow it to its' new home. I've driven this classic in and around Buena Vista, Colorado for the past three years, and before that, a Texas family who owned a summer home in Steamboat Springs used it during their annual month long visit to Colorado for the past 25 years. Other than that, it has sat in a garage the rest of the time as it does now.Seller will assist with loading if shipping by a third party is required. On Aug-26-15 at 11:43:42 PDT, seller added the following information: From the emails below, it appears that this jeep is rather rare, however, I have too many vehicles, and this one needs to go. I love driving this Jeep, it runs great, is well behaved on the highway, though a bit under-powered at altitude. I'll upload more photos shortly. From another eBayer: "Wondering if you realize how rare this Jeep is? This is a "Tuxedo Park" edition. Google it. Very few made. Saw the color and steering wheel color and peaked my curiosity. What clinches it is (1) Chrome windshield hinges, (2) Chrome rear bumper, (3) Rear center-of-tailgate plate holder. Either the hood has been replaced, or the hood badges (should be right behind hold-downs) have been removed. It's missing the chrome front bumper, but your VIN# will verify if it is a true Tux Park. Like I said, google it. Quite a rare find and if confirmed, you should delist with "Tuxedo Park" in your title. These command better dollars. I have one. Great Jeep. I believe '64 was the first year they had the "Tux Park" trim package!!" "By the way, Tux Parks also had chrome hood hinges, chrome grab bar and chrome rear break lights. All of which, yours still has. Just the original tux park components can bring hundreds of dollars. Originally, it had cushions on the rear wheel wells too. You should see screw holes on the vertical surfaces just below the top of the rear wheel wells where the cushions were attached. Couple of corrections though - In my earlier message, I wrote "delist". That SHOULD read RElist! Also, if I am right, and '64 WAS the first year, the VIN# may not reflect Tux Park, because in the first year it was just an "add-on" trim package. It was later when it became it's own dedicated model. Because of that, maybe it didn't HAVE the chrome "Tuxedo park" emblem on the hood before it was a seperate model. Your color is called "Indian ceramic" ALSO - I have seen several tux parks with the front grill painted a different color as yours is. You DEF have an early Tux park! Congrats!" "This will be my last message, sorry to bug you, but I am a Tux park enthusiast. I looked again at your Jeep, and this is absolutely the finest example I've seen in a long time! The original paint still mostly shines! A real beauty. Don't let her go too cheap! With the exception of the front bumper and rear cushions, she's pristine."On Aug-26-15 at 12:31:11 PDT, seller added the following information: So some folks have been asking about the rust, so I removed the floor mats and took some additional photos. In the following photos, you see that this jeep is in great shape rust wise. On the floor pans, even the "tub drains" are functional. The rear seat is an after market that has not been fastened to the floor, however, the attaching hardware is included. There is some slight bubbling of the paint where the floor board to cowl brace rests against the outer side panel inside the foot well. This is shown in the photos with the "Jeep" logo. The shot of my hand shows some silicone and some dried mastic along the bottom of the hood. It is NOT rust. Not sure if there had been some sort of a gasket/seal along here or why the silicone. And finally, the rear deck area:
