Vehicle Detail

1970 Chevrolet Pickup C10 This beautiful Chevy pickup was owned & restored by a banker in Danville, Virginia, about ten years ago (contact information is available). This was a frame-off restoration with a repaint of the chassis and of course the beautiful paint job. The truck was originally olive green & white two-tone. The previous owner stated the following: "very straight body; new tailgate installed; stripped, primed, & repainted, one rocker panel replaced; bumpers were re-chromed; new interior installed; nothing done to engine (believes it was redone previously" This owner subsequently needed garage space and sold the truck to a dealer. I bought the truck at Spring Carlisle in 2006 from the dealer. I've determined it came from the factory with the a 307 V-8 but that it was modified at some point with a Rochester Quadrajet 4 Barrel carberuator and dual exhausts. The VIN decodes: C (4x2), E (V-8 gas), 1 (1/2 ton), 4 (pickup with cab & bed), 0 (1970), B (Baltimore), and S/N 160836. This is a very handsome truck as is apparent from the photos. I kept the truck with my collection for about four years and then gave the truck to my older brother who lives in nearby Harrisonsburg. He is a former USAF aircraft mechanic who has restored several cars and is meticulous on mechanical condition. However, he is less meticulous on cosmetics. He proceeded to drive the truck for about four years and accomplished numerous mechanical upgrades such as tires, shocks, suspension work, rear end gear renewal, ongoing tune-ups, electrical work, radiator recore, new hoses, axle bearings, ball joints, various seals, all fluids replaced, bushings, coil, fuel pump, alternator, plugs, wires and points, etc.(Receipts substantiate this). About a year ago he returned the truck to me as he was downsizing and ran out of garage space. I've recently retired and am selling several vehicles to simplify my life. Take a look at Hemmings and note the current asking prices for the popular 1967-1972 C10 pickup. I would expect this truck to be offered by a dealer at $25k+. I would describe the condition of this truck to be a 10 for mechanics and an 8 for cosmetics. It was a 10 for cosmetics when given to my brother and he used it often and returned it to me with some dings and scratches. The bed has been scratched up along with the inside of the tailgate (I keep a tonneau cover on it which "hides" same). There are some light dings & dents in two or three places which are not obvious at 10' but are apparent under closer inspection. I had an estimate made by a local body shop for the cost to restore the paint to a 10, including respray of the bed & tailgate and light repairs on two dents on the front quarter panels. The total cost to restore the body & paint to a 10 is $1800. A new owner would perhaps be very happy to drive the truck "as is" where a meticulous collector would want the cosmetic work done. In any event, with the cosmetic work done I believe you would have a 10 for mechanics and a 10 for cosmetics. This truck drives beautifully, with good power, acceleration, and automatic transmission shifting. The suspension is solid, drives straight with good braking. It passed Virginia inspection last year although inspection of a classic is optional. I've decided to sell this truck quickly and let the next owner decide whether to spend money on the cosmetics or not. It can be driven anywhere confidently and will attract admiring comments along the way. Thanks for taking a look at this ad.
