Vehicle Detail

1910 Ford Model T Touring - Great History! LAU COLLECTION. 1910 Ford Model T Touring. Body Number 25244 Engine Number 5244 According to the factory documents, this particular Model T was assembeld on May 17, 1910 and shipped to Portland, Oregon. It has lived in Oregon for the past 105 years. While the early owner of the car is unknown, by 1949 it was living in Roseburg, Oregon when it was acquired by noted Northwest collector of the day, W.W. "Bill" McCready. Bill was the owner of McCready Lumber Company in Forest Grove, Oregon and also owned a large collection of historic vehicles, including cars, trolleys and trains, which were kept in his private museum. The Ford was in good original condition when acquired by Mr. McCready and he set about performing a cosmetic restoration. The car (which the 1910 factory card notes was originally green color) was painted black with red engine, undercarriage and accents by McCready, in keeping with the colorful restoration styles of the 1950's. At the time, notes written by Bill (see image #20, below) suggested the car may have been an early 1909 model with 1910 parts added, possibly because the engine number was stamped "5244". However, today we recognize that the engine in the car has enclosed valves - which were not introduced on Model T's until mid-1911. The factory build card (which was acquired after Mr. McCready's death) confirms this car is a true 1910 model. The later enclosed valve engine found its way to the car sometime before 1949 and has been with the car since. The McCready's paraded the car frequently until Bill's passing in 1962. The car was later sold by the McCready family in about 1973 to a gentleman in Gresham, Oregon. In 1993 it was purchased by Fred Lau in Portland. Fred Lau replaced many items on the car to improve its condition and authenticity. Most significantly, a new correct brass radiator was constructed by The Brass Works of San Luis Obispo, California (the original radiator had previously been replaced in the 1950's.) New tires were also fitted on the restored hickory wheels and a correct period Stewart clock and Stewart Model 24 speedometer were fitted. At this point, actual mileage is unknown. We are told the car starts easily (on the first or second pull of the crank) and runs excellently. Cosmetically, it presents nicely today as a well-maintained, older period restoration. The wood body, metal and paint are excellent. The front floor mat and portions of the interior appear to still be original. The top is excellent. All brass is intact and very nice. Please see photos. A large file of documentation and photos accompany this car, confirming its history and care through the years. This is a very nice early T for touring or show and would be welcome at any of the many Model T Ford Club events and tours. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its condition and quality. Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!  (Please note that we will be offering other Model T's from the Lau Collection on eBay in the following weeks, including the legendary 1908 T "#220".
