Vehicle Detail
Relisting this bike due to buyer running into financial difficulties. Been my bike since 2001. Took me to work and rallies.Maintained by me. Last job done in 2014: replaced pushrod tube seals, de-coked heads, replaced head gasketsGreased clutch splines and "while in there" replaced swingarm bearings.Steering head bearings were done previously.Have ridden about 600 miles since. E Bay forced me to specify mileage. When I bought this bike I was assured that she had done around 20,000 miles.I put about that same number on her.So somewhere around 40,000 to 50,000 miles I can't ride this bike anymore also I'll be 70 come Sept. and must clear the "herd"I have shrunk considerably 2". Broke 3 vertebrae in 2001.Gotten fat and by replacing seat with later, more comfortable model, I have trouble reaching the ground, 28" inseam. Due to back and knee pain can't work on her anymore either. What needs to be done by buyer: Check head torque (new head gasket), reset valve clearance, readjust timing, currently a tad advanced.Adjust idle jet on carb. If you can swing a wrench don't be afraid to work on an old boxer there's plenty of help available.Join the /5 united, airheads and slash 5 BS (banter and tech help) forums. Also "Snow bum's" and Duane Ausherman's websites. They will also guide you if you need the professionals to work on your bikeLet's keep these old Beemers going the ?/5 has now attained the classic title. There are no dents on this bike, paint chips here and there ? sure, this is a unrestored original. What shows up in pic #5 right side font of tank is glare so are the inner side of cigar mufflers in pic# 9. Owners manual and tools (incomplete, sorry) and wrenching advice I printed of the web are included. This is a good running machine. Test rides are no problem as long as i have cash in hand. I do not get involved with shipping.
