Hello Old British Motorbike Lovers: Here is an AMAZING rare 1951 Triumph Tiger 500cc in tremendous condition.This bike started it's life in the UK at the Triumph factory, found it's way to Australia(where a lot of Triumph's end up because of the climate a non-congested roads with long enjoyable stretches), and was rebuilt completely in 1989 by world renowned Triumph 'Factory Mechanic' Harry Woolridge.I'm told Harry authenticated and rebuilt the motorbike on a new, Triumph factory frame, including correct nuts, bolts, washers, bushings, fuel system with correct lines(including what my local Triumph specialist, Montgomery Cycles, researched and found to be a pre-WW2 brass carburetor that alone is worth over $1500...).Everything works(all electrical) and still uses a 6-volt electrical system. The original lead battery case has been hollowed-out(for original appearance) and a new 6V Interstate NCAD battery sits inside the casing providing necessary power. I've found this to be a 'first kick' start machine with plenty of torque. However, we have ethanol in the gasoline in California, and you need to start the bike at least once a week to stop the ethanol 'gumminess' from causing any clogs - like they will with any older motorcycle or car. Ethanol sucks. People like Steve McQueen and others raced this model and in it's day easily exceeded 100mph, although I've not come close to this. The alloy Tiger is set apart from the standard iron twin due to it having a cast alloy head, cylinders with 8-stud factory patterns, polished bores and forged alloy pistons. I have had 2 major back surgeries and thus can no longer ride, even though this model has the rare 'sprung hub' which allots approximately 1.5" of play when the rear wheel hits a bump. I just can't take the risk. I recently had Montgomery Motorcycle go thru the entire bike, which resulted in the addition of 2 new tires, adding a single 'Lycette' seat(really the only way to go with this bike due to looks and comfort - the seat is a 100% correct leather repro(not cheap & very hard to find)), remove and clean the carburetor(sonic), adjust all bolts to specifications, tune, etc. In the end, I paid ~$800 to ensure the bike was safe and as good as it could be. The top mechanic at Montgomery told me this the nicest older Triumph they've worked on, and were amazed at the lack of any major leaks, power, smoothness, etc,. It has a clear Colorado title(although I am selling from California). Due to my back surgeries, I've barely ridden this beauty, but EVERYONE comments on it being the 'best looking Triumph they've ever seen'. You will get comments every day you ride it. There are a couple of other 1951 Triumph Tigers for sale on high-end old British bike websites in the mid $20s. I feel those are ridiculous prices - I'd like to just recoup what I have in the bike - I got a great deal and will pass it on. Good Karma. At the time, I didn't want to part with the bike ... and then I had my 2nd back surgery. I will certainly work with a buyer from Europe or Australia/New Zealand should the need arise, and do what I can to assist with crating and shipping.
