Vehicle Detail

1960 Buick Electra 225 Convertible Model 4867 Conv CpeTHE BASICS97,621 original miles with clear and open title, VIN #: 8G1031817 Body Tag: STYLE60-4867 BODY FB 1897 TRIM869 PAINT V V 3ACC. B E 16 DETAILS Great example of a top of the line, end of the 50’s, finned GM Harley Earl designed Convertible with the very desirable bucket seat and console option, factory red paint, and original 325 HP 401 nailhead V8. Two of the stylized portholes are missing; there should be 4 per side, not just the 3 that are pictured. This is a true 225, “4 holer”, long wheelbase model that shares all the same desirable convertible components with the 1959/1960 Cadillac and Oldsmobile 98. Equipped with the famous GM “metal back” bucket seats that first appeared in the 1958 Bonneville, then were optional equipment, or an accessory, in select models of Buicks, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs in 1959, 1960, and 1961. These seats sell for a premium when they infrequently come on the market. These type seats are prone to rust issues; however, the seats in this car are obviously very nice and the drivers side is power.I bought this car out of a building in Wisconsin a couple years ago. Like a lot of old cars, the previous owner took the car apart to restore it, and never finished it. I bought the car as you see it, disassembled. All the parts that I found are pictured Being from rural Wisconsin, there are some sheet metal rust issues as you will see in the pictures, BUT unlike a lot of midwest cars the frame and chassis are solid, so I suspect the rust issues are from caked mud or dirt that held moisture rather than salt. This was never a “field car” that sat outside exposed to all mother nature could throw at it. The interior and top mechanism were not exposed to the elements. The car was not stored outside, or kept outside with the top down, so the interior and top mechanism are in excellent shape for a project car. Except for being partially paint stripped, car appears to be mostly original red paint, except where someone painted the white highlights, so you are seeing what you are getting, nothing is bondo'd over! I sold the car a number months ago within hours of listing it. The buyer never completed the purchase after many excuses and long delays. I then decided to just keep the car, BUT another project car has discovered me, so the Buick needs to go, AGAIN. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE GOOD-Top of the line convertible with optional bucket seats and great factory color.-Has all the good convertible components that are typically missing or rotted to nothing: Super nice top mechanism with solid header bow, back seats, rear armrests, quarter window garnish moldings, power window regulators, etc.-Car was purchased partially disassembled. There is a picture of the loose parts spread out for inspection and a picture of the parts as currently packed in the trunk. -since the car is from the midwest and has been stored inside, the dash, steering wheel, and leather interior are all in surprisingly good condition. -Frame is solid with surface rust. Bottom of car was “sandblasted” from driving on gravel, or rural dirt roads, but there doesn’t appear to be any heavy rust flaking from prolonged exposure to salt.- has all the potential to be a “high dollar” restored classic, or unique custom, either way well worth the effort. The BAD AND THE UGLY:-The rust issues are “localized”, and for lack of a better word, “illogical”. The floor rust is primarily in the lower portions of the floor pans, yet the trunk pan is good. Very rear corner on drivers side quarter is bad, but the passenger side is good (see pictures). rear wheel well area on drivers side obviously bad, but passenger side is OK. Even with the extent of rust in and around drivers side rear wheel well, the inner and outer rockers and bottom of the doors appear to be in good shape.-could not get engine to turn over by hand. I obviously cannot guarantee the engine, but the previous owner, who was a very forthright individual, said that the car was running before he had started stripping it, which would only make sense. But the project was abandoned, and it was parked in his building and not periodically started, as should have been done. The engine looks unmolested and in good condition as it was not exposed to the elements. The engine oil, and transmission fluid both looked good. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROJECT CAR SHIPPING POLICY:Assistance available with coordinating shipping. Periodically, overseas buyers need parts delivered and packed in their car before shipment. We have experience with this arrangement, and can discuss this service. I have a great working relationship with the exporters in Houston, and can assist in arranging shipping with your hauler (my zip code is 80524) to Houston. I have used a particular Texas based transported many times that gladly accepts inoperative vehicles and makes deliveries to Texas every few weeks. PAYMENT$500, non-refundable PayPal deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment due within 10 days of auction close. Cash, Funds same as cash, wire transfer. Payment in full and cleared prior to pick-up or delivery. See Payment Policy for details. MISC.The vehicle is inoperative and not street legal. Therefore upon purchase, it must be trailered. This item is not eligible for the eBay Motors purchase protection plan. .All sales final, no returns or refunds. No warranty or guarantee written or implied! SOLD AS-IS, WHERE IS. Reserve the right to close auction early if sold through local advertising.I intend on keeping the reserve private, as discussing it individually would not be fair to all bidders. I choose to have a reserve to protect the standing offer or basic value of the bucket seats, and convertible components. I would hate to see this car parted out, but if I cannot get a price to cover the non-buick components, then I will be keeping the GM common convertible stuff and “wholesaling” the ‘60 Buick remains. I will not sell the bucket seats individually….unless I am made an “obscene” offer, in which case, it would probably make more sense to buy the entire car. Look the pictures over, and then contact me if additional info is needed. We have never received negative feedback, and want to keep it that way! Contact through eBay messaging first, then provide email and/or phone number if you desire. I am usually easier to contact with texting verses calling, but may not get the message for several days if traveling. If I do not respond to a text in a timely manner, please leave a voicemail if I do not answer. Ken at 970-980-3239. Please note: Depending on your location, delivery of the car might be an option. Please send me your location. Save me as a seller, more project cars and parts to be listed, and trying to build up our eBay Store ………and most important of all…….Happy bidding!
