Vehicle Detail

This 1962 T-Bird car is a great driver because many of the things you discover with an old car like this have already been encountered and fixed. For example, after buying the car, I discovered the fuel system had scale or dirt in it, which made it run poorly. So I replaced the entire fuel system: the gas tank was re-lined and new fuel lines, sending unit, carburetor, fuel pump and filter were installed. This process went on with many of the car's systems---suspension work, the complete braking system, a transmission re-build, etc. Things like the carburetor, starter, steering gear pump and distributor were rebuilt or replaced. A new radiator, heater core and frost plug were put in. New seals, wheel bearings, rear leaf springs, exhaust manifold and idler arm were installed. That and more are all in the receipts I have. Also, in the ten years I have owned the car no rust has popped out---the body panels have not changed. The car was in storage from the early 80's into the 90's by the previous owner. I have always kept it garaged in the 10 years I've owned it, and started and drove it every couple of months or so. I have never had it in snow. I'm embarrassed about how much money I've put into this car. I had most of the work done at one place and I have over $11,000 in receipts in the last ten years. You can see the receipts if you are serious about buying the car and even talk to the mechanic who did almost all of the work for me. This is a very complete car, right down to the plexi-glass wind deflectors in front of the wing windows. The paint job and carpets are not original but the paint is the original "Saddle Tan" color. The paint is in poor condition. The car has a slide away steering wheel, fender skirts and the correct bias-ply whitewall tires with only about 1000 miles on them. Leather seats are original---the front seats are worn out, the rear seats are in very good condition. The headliner has no tears or stains. The car runs well, does not smoke, drop oil or run hot and there is no blow-by out of the filler cap. Most of the functions work fine, like the lights, dash dimmer, wipers, speedometer, gas guage, heater, defroster, power seat, etc. However, the horn, radio, clock and turn signals don't work. Some of the chrome is dinged up but the body is dent free. The car has the correct seat belts in the front and has a nearly new car cover. I have the title in hand---this car is cruise ready. Also, in the ten years I have owned the car no rust has popped out---the body panels have not changed. The floor pans are original and I would give them a 7+ on a 1-10 scale. That I could see, there is a slim three inch rust hole in the driver's side floor pan and a silver dollar-sized one in the passenger side pan.
