CAR IS FORSALE LOCALLY. SELLER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY IF CAR SELLS BEFORE AUCTION ENDS. The Good: The best thing about this car is the exterior finish or is it the engine and drive train. They are both near perfect. The finish is unbelievable for a 33 year old car. No clear coat peel or touchup. The engine starts on the first turn and runs flawlessly. The transmission shifts are crisp and it steers straight as an arrow, cruises all day long at 80 MPH and will chirp the tires on a full throttle 1-2 shift. This is a late 82 model with factory installed double row cam chain. I purchased the car 8 months ago with the intentions of a full restoration and a bright red paint job. The car would not start for the PO so I got it for a good price. Went up to N. Georgia installed and new starter and an ignition module then drove it 180 miles home down I 85 at speeds over 80 MPH. The Michelins were dry rotted so I replaced all the tires with new ones, installed a set of Mercedes aftermarket chrome wheels and finally checked everything underneath for safety. Next I serviced the transmission and installed an updated modulator. The Tranny was real mushy when I got it. After setting everything inside and adjusting the modulator it now shifts like a race car. It can be softened up a bit with the adjustable modulator. Next, because I didn't know if the cam chain had been changed at 100,000 miles I installed a new Mercedes chain. The plastic guides were barely discolored from their original white and pink so I think I wasted $200 and a days labor. There wasn't any wear grooves in the guides at all. I dropped the pan, installed a new oil pump chain and cleaned the pan. Finally, I did a complete tune including new plugs, wires distributer parts, cap and rotor and opened up the fuel distributer for cleaning and new seals. Freshened up any vacuum hoses that were needed and cleaned the valve covers and replaced the gaskets with new OEM gaskets. I charged the AC and checked its operation. All the glass in the car is excellent and the power windows all work as they should. I added a set of stainless steel fender moldings and the dual brake light (Euro) kit as well as a new washer bottle. This car has the narrow Euro bumpers and all the chrome is free from pitting or spider webbing. All the original wheels (in great shape) and an owner's manual come with the car. The wipers, washers, radio, moon roof etc all work as they should. The bad: I am advanced in years and have degenerative disc disease. About a month ago my back went out and I am now nearly incapacitated. I am scheduled for disc replacement surgery in August, with a recovery period of 9-12 months so I have to let someone else finish the car. To be a near perfect survivor it will need both front seats recovered (approx. $400), a new headliner ($300) and a dash cap ($150). Also the AC worked fine after charging but leaked down in about a week. The sniffer found traces of Freon near the bottom of the condenser. A common problem on these cars as the cavity under the condenser holds dirt and leaves and causes rot. Replacement condensers are all over eBay for around $100. It has been converted to 134. Also the driver's seat will not go up and down. The seat motor runs but the seat doesn't move. Probably a gear drive cable. The car would make a great daily driver as it is as it is quite easy on gas. The W126 first generation models are becoming quite collectible. It would also make a great donor car if you have an SL or 300 series with a blown motor or transmission as these engines sell for upwards of $2000. The parts are worth more than the whole car. The reserve is very low. You can own this car for less than 2K. A well preserved survivor like this usually brings from 4-7k on eBay. Restored they bring as much as $15000. The car is located in the 30286 area code and has a clean Georgia Title. Auto Check lists 5 owners but the last two are me and the PO neither of which drove the car more than a couple hundred mile. You may contact me through eBay messaging for offers. Thank you for reading all this and good luck bidding... Thanks for your interest, Larry
