Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale is a beautiful 1965 entirely solid and mechanically strong 4-speed manual Mercedes 230SL, that retains its original fenders (including the telltale factory spot-welds and headlamp notches) and its solid, original undercarriage. The car that has always been well looked after, this original Pagoda is finished in rare and factory White (DB 050) with a gray hard top and red hub caps over a red interior, a crisp livery that somehow manages to be all at once timeless while wonderfully era specific. If you’re in the market for a beautiful W113 this car absolutely deserves your serious consideration. The car’s body is very straight, with consistent and correct panel fits and gaps throughout, and while the finish has a number of minor imperfections, the car remains abundantly presentable – the ideal original weekend driver for the enthusiast or collector. The car shows no evidence of ever having been in an accident, (though it has had some small dents repaired) and it seems to be retaining its original fenders with original welds. The car also retains all of its original glass (small spot crack on front window shield) and the chrome is in very good condition, free of any dings, dents or significant imperfections. The steering wheel damper is loose and will need to be replaced. The hood has been repaired do to a fan blade coming loose but was repaired with only heat shrinking (no bondo) well-loved thru the years by the previous owner as well as myself, the hardtop (including the headliner) is in great shape and the color-matched, hub capped wheels retain their chrome beauty rings and are wrapped in Michelin tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s red interior perfectly offsets the grey and white exterior, adding just enough sex appeal to an otherwise understated livery. The resilient original MB Tex seats show only minor imperfections and the carpets are in good condition with the correct German square weave material. The door panels and other interior panels are in excellent original condition, as is the original wood trim, the speedometer broke at the 62000 mile mark I have the replacement cable with this auction and the car has had very little drive time on it since then mostly just to keep all things working well. A very nice black German canvas soft top has been installed (including the original early W113 SL chrome trim) and it functions flawlessly. The car is also mechanically solid. The engine starts effortlessly, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. Compression is strong and even across all cylinders, providing power sufficient for modern highway driving, and the car’s road manners are exceptional, handling crisply and driving and braking straight and true. The engine bay is clean and correct, as is the car’s original and solid undercarriage and trunk. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous example that has everything going for it: beautiful and unique original color combination, strong mechanicals and most importantly, an entirely original and solid undercarriage and completely straight, original body. Whether for the weekend enthusiast or the seasoned collector, this stunning W113 Pagoda 230SL is sure to provide its next owner with years of motoring. This car is very beautiful but please ask any questions you need! I am not a professional collector but I can answer most questions regarding this car, I hate to see it go but it will be a good vehicle for the next owner to enjoyIt is at a very modest reserve and you will have a very collectable car!
