Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1947 International Step Van. I purchased this Van around 2000 from a salvage yard in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was advertised to us as a 1947 International UPS truck. At the time of purchase it did have the UPS logos and a UPS identification number. You can see the logo right behind the sliding door. Here is the UPS identification number. My brother has been a UPS employee for many years and told us used UPS trucks are rare because UPS typically destroys their trucks when they are decommissioned. This is also a rare vehicle because the body is aluminum. When we got it, the aluminum was painted over, but I eventually stripped most of the exterior down to the bare aluminum. I originally purchased it as a project but just don't have the time to give it the attention it needs. Important details: It comes with a bill of sale only. We also have not been able to locate a VIN# anywhere on the vehicle. The motor and transmission are gone but they also did not have a VIN#. The steering wheel has the old International Harvester triple diamond logo. As far as the condition, the aluminum body is in good shape other than a hole in the driver side door. It was punctured by a forklift while being moved at the salvage yard. It looks like it would be easy to repair. Steel parts are rusty. There is rust in the back compartment that was steel. It will require some patching probably. Some of the glass is cracked but all the windows are flat, not curved so they should be an easy fix. There is a lot of peeling paint on the interior and some parts are in rough condition, but the body is good and the frame is solid. The body is currently detached from the frame. I wanted to work on it and could not fit the entire thing in my garage with the body on the frame. The grill and the back door are also detached. I have the steering wheel, instrument box, seat, front floor board and engine cover, radiator and radiator frame. Some are in rough, but restorable shape - just make sure to check the pictures for a good idea of their condition. This step van is rare. We have looked for years for an identical model and have never found one. It is really unique and would make a great candidate for a rat rod or street rod project. Just make sure to send me pictures when you get done with it. On Jun-06-15 at 08:34:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Overall length (bumper to bumper) is 17'09". Overall length of the body is 16'03".From the wall behind the seat to the rear door is 10'.Inside width is 6'01". Width of the frame is 3'04".The wheelbase is 115" Total outside width 6'02". Thanks for looking and let me know if you need anything else.
