This is a NO RESERVE auction and the VW Thing will be sold regardless of price, on or off auction.     This particular auction is for an authentic original 1974 Volkswagen Thing Safari convertible as shown. Getting tired of seeing nothing but "restored", junk, modified, restorod, unoriginal or rusty cars for sale? Well here is a special one - It is an unrestored original survivor that has had almost everything  replaced new. As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1974 VW Thing at $12,800 low for condition 4 and $42900 high for condition 1. Condition #2 is listed at $31,200, condition #3 is listed at $22,600. I will answer all email questions.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   An extremely attractive survivor VW Thing in the right color, pumpkin orange. It is a matching numbers Texas car with a clear Texas title. It has a brand new 1776 CC Mofoco engine with zero miles. Almost everything on it is new. The car has been in storage for many years and we recently brought it out and did a complete revival process, replacing everything needed to bring it up to top running and driving standards, effectively turning it into an almost new car mechanically. A lot of time and money were spent and almost everything that was done was done with genuine VW parts - we try to stay away from Chinese reproduction junk. Since all this work was done, no more than 3 miles have been put on the entire car. It is turn key, ready to drive and will last for many years doing nothing but appreciating in value while you are having fun. ENGINE:   A brand new COMPLETE special ordered 1776 CC crate engine from Mofoco Enterprises (cost $3000) in Milwaukee Wisconsin was purchased and installed. It has been run for no more than 3 miles. Includes a new genuine Bosch distributor, new CompuFire module distributor kit, new Empi carburetor, new throttle cable, new stainless steel divided header exhaust, new stainless steel J tubes, new fuel lines, new clutch, new clutch cable, new ignition wires, new engine sheet metal. This engine has more horsepower than the original but was ordered primarily with durability and reliability in mind. Larger engines were available but their higher output was at a cost of decreased longevity and reliability. The original matching numbers engine is semi apart and goes with the car. TRANSMISSION:    Original transmission that was rebuilt a couple of years ago. New shift kit, bushings and seals were recently installed. Works perfectly. No noises. No problems. ENGINE COMPARTMENT:   Extremely nice, straight, solid, original and sanitary. Well maintained.   FRONT TRUNK COMPARTMENT:   Extremely nice, attractive and original with new spare tire, working gas heater and jack. New wiper motor and new horns. No rust in the bottom where they usually rust. EXTERIOR:   Fine condition. Includes a brand new expensive black crush vinyl top from the Thing Shop and all brand new top quality (very expensive) side curtains, also from the Thing Shop. New windshield seal, new body seals, new hood seal. PAINT:   Coming from Texas, it was painted the original color one time years ago due to fading from the sun. It is a typical drivers type paint job of the period. Good, solid but not show quality.    CHASSIS:   The underside of the car is excellent. The floor was completely media cleaned and professionally resurfaced with a 2 part black Urethane bed liner which is both bullet proof and attractive. New expensive original type rubber floor mats from the Thing Shop were put on top of the Urethane liner. All of the enclosed areas of the body/chassis such as the rocker panel areas were professionally rustproofed by drilling and using rustproofing wands to access all areas. There are 2 minor small rust spots in the paint - one on each side as shown in the photos - nothing to worry about.   INTERIOR:     A very attractive interior - what one would expect with a 2 owner car. New battery.   DASH AREA:     The dash is completely original. Everything works including the original radio and original VW gas heater. Has a new ignition switch, new turn signal switch, new wiper switch, new headlight switch, new gas heater fuel pump, new gas heater protection plate and new gas heater timer switch. UPHOLSTERY:   Nice clean undamaged tough black vinyl upholstery front and rear.   AIR CONDITIONING:     None TIRES & WHEELS:     Five brand new Toyo Extensa A/S P205/75 R14 Radial tires with less than 3 miles on them - wheels and hubcaps are the original VW. EXHAUST:   The best, most expensive new stainless steel divided header exhaust and new stainless steel J tubes were installed. Nice and quiet and has a pleasant tough raspy sound. SUSPENSION AND BRAKES:   Suspension is all original and in excellent condition. Brakes are also excellent - the master cylinder, wheel cylinders and all brake hoses having been replaced recently.   PAPERWORK:    A clear Texas title and a bill of sale from the last owner goes with the car. Also a stack of bills/receipts for all the work that has been done. FACTORY ID PLATE:   The original ID plates are all very nice and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is 1832755081E REVIEW:   An exceptional well cared for survivor that has not been modified by any amateur or beat to a pulp like so many have. It is almost like a new car mechanically - a car that will last for many years and will do nothing but appreciate in value while you enjoy driving it. INSPECTION OF CAR:   As always, it is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 17 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible. SHIPPING:   I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport.
