Vehicle Detail
1999 Dodge Dually Diesel, as pictured. Good running condition, ready to go to work for you. I'm selling because I no longer use it. The vehicle is in GOOD condition, but not MINT condition--please don't confuse the two! I will describe everything as accurately as I can and if you want to know more, just ask. I've owned it since about 2006, it was used to pull a large gooseneck trailer before I got it. I used it to haul things, cars and trailers. It has been nicked and scratched, but never wrecked or bent. The previous owner installed a few modifications, including upgraded injectors, a huge canister air filter, a straight 4" exhaust, larger tires (235/85-16) and different software that allows for four performance levels--stock, tow-safe, tow-performance and performance (coal rolling, etc). It has always been used on the tow-safe setting to get increased fuel mileage, better torque and to compensate for the upsized tires. It is supposedly good for 270HP in this configuration. I haven't had it on a dyno, but it really climbs mountains with a trailer quite well. It also gets very good mileage, as much as 20MPG with a trailer and more without. Recent repairs and work include new tires, brakes, front wheel hub/bearing assemblies, clutch and rebuilt transmission, all within 6000 miles. The trans was working well until it lost 5th gear (common problem), but my trans specialist didn't want to just fix it due to the miles. So, it got a complete rebuild including the proper fix for the 5th gear problem, which is a new, revised mainshaft that has a clip that prevents the 5th gear locknut from spinning off. It got new synchros, bearings and clutch, just because it was apart. It also has a new bedliner because the bed was a bit beat up (not terrible or rusty, just worn with some dents) and it still has all the holed from the fifth-wheel hitch. It does have some minor issues. The volume control on the radio is erratic--doesn't go up or down reliably. I will try and fix this before the auction ends. The outside temperature display doesn't work since I washed it and the overhead console in general is a bit flaky--it sometimes resets on its own. The truck is loud due to the straight exhaust. If you like the sound of a strong diesel, this might be your truck. If you like silence, it isn't. The leather on the steering wheel is chewed up. I just put a nice cover on it, one that fits really tight so I don't want to take it off to take a picture. I've forgotten that it is even there. There is a little bit of surface rust on the very bottoms of the doors and some bubbling in the fender area between the front door and wheelwell, right where the running board screws attach. This may need a bit of work if you want it to look nice. The truck is otherwise not rusty, but since it is not originally a California truck, I don't want anyone to expect one of those ridiculously clean CA vehicles. If you have questions, please ask. If you bid, send me an email an introduce yourself, especially if it looks like you might win. Payment terms need to be worked out in advance and I need the truck to be picked up as soon as possible after auction end. Cash is preferred, but I can accept a cashiers check from any bank that has branches in my area! Chase, Wells Fargo, US Bank, etc. We will have to go to the bank to complete the transaction and they will verify that the check is not fraudulent. PLEASE--do not show up in the middle of the night with a cashiers check from some unknown Savings and Loan--fraud is rampant these days. If you want to fly in to get it, I can pick you up at the Ontario (California) airport--Southwest has lots of cheap flights there. I do not ship or arrange shipping. If you are arranging your own shipping, please let me know what is going on beforehand. On May-22-15 at 18:02:40 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE 22 MAY 2015 I have fixed the radio, I just took it out and blew the dust out of the volume control and it seems to work now. Since I have a lot of interest in California, I took it for its smog check today and it now has a current smog certificate. I had a lot of questions about rust and the "minor accident" that shows up in the Auto Check history. I've posted some pictures of the door bottoms, the area of the front fenders behind the wheel wells where the running boards attach and of the cab corners and box front lower seam. As you can see, the cab corners and box seams are clean. The driveshaft and hardware underneath will have surface rust, just like any other vehicle that isn't from the desert. The drivers door bottom has some rust, but no holes that I can see. The passenger door is clean. Both areas where the running boards attach have rust behind there and it looks like there may have been some work done at some time--the running board screws are different on the driver's side. I suspect that moisture got behind there because of the running boards. The accident listed happened before I owned it. Looking at it, I'm guessing it had a new left rear fender extension (the part that goes over the dual wheel--it is plastic) and some paint work on that side. I've never noticed before, and you can't see this in bright sunlight, but there is some blotching or fading in the paintwork both back on that fender extension and on the drivers door near the mirror. I had a hard time getting it in a photo, but on the one side photo you can actually see it--its not a reflection. It does have a 2" receiver hitch, no idea what model, and a Primus electric brake controller. The connector is the 7-pin HD trailer standard connector and it is just hanging back there. I'm including a standard receiver with a 2-5/16" ball (installed) and an adjustable pintle hitch with a 2" ball. There is a 1-7/8" ball in the cargo area as well. The controller, etc all worked fine the last time used. I am including a new set of cam-lock tire chains, tighteners, the Superchips programmer and a spare oil filter. A word on the oil and filter--Cummins has a list of acceptable filters and it is a good idea to stick to that list. Some other filters will come apart and ruin your engine. I've used Mopar filters, Rotella oil and changed the oil every 5K. Someone asked about block and battery heaters for cold climates. It does have a nice block heater but not battery blankets. With dual batteries I've never had a problem starting it when it is plugged in. In very cold climates like WI, MN, ND, SD, MT, you do need to plug it in at night or it won't go. If you leave it plugged in long enough it will even defrost the windshield! The tires are Firestone Transforce HT (Highway Tread) 235/85LT16, Load Range E and are in really good condition, about 6000 miles on them.
