Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1980 Mercedes 450sl. I had been looking for a project car a awhile, and ran across a good deal on this car a couple weeks ago. Its a very nice car and is tons of fun to drive, just not what I was really looking for. The 4.5 liter v8 idles a little rough and could probably use a light tune up, but it runs out great, and does not appear to burn any oil or over heat. The transmission shifts great, including the kick down switch under the gas pedal. Mechanically I would rate the vehicle a 9 out of 10. As you can see in the pic, car comes with lots of service records, owners manual, and other documentation. I have drove it daily since I purchased it, including a couple of trips in excess of 70 miles. I will continue driving it until it sells, so the mileage will increase slightly from what is listed. THIS IS A CAR YOU CAN DRIVE HOME, NO NEED TO BRING A TRAILER. Interior is nice. Seats are excellent, carpet is slightly faded but very presentable, dash has a couple of small cracks, as seen in the pics. Passenger window does not work. Climate control only blows in defrost position, and then blows out front vents as well as the defrost. A/C pump runs and lines get cold, but blower motor does not work in A/C position. I have not messed with it much, but I don't think it is the climate control servo, which is the most common and expensive fix. The service records indicate it has been replaced, it looks new, and you can hear it engage when you select different positions. I would rate the interior an 8 out of 10. As seen in the pics, the body has light rust, faded paint, and a few small blemishes, but overall is very solid. Both tops in excellent shape, but could use the weatherstripping replaced, it's dry and cracked in a few places. A small amount of water comes in around the side windows when it rains, and you hear some air rushing in at highway speeds. Its nothing to bad though. Trunk looks good and floors are solid. I would call the body a 7 out of 10. Overall this is a nice car with good tires and a new battery. It would be an easy restoration, or a fun driver as is. I have paid to have the vehicle transferred into my name, just awaiting the title in the mail. I have the receipt from the county clerk showing it has been transferred, and they assured me the title would arrive in a few days. Should be here before it sells. I just want to be as honest and straight forward as possible. If you have questions, or would like to see a pic of anything in particular, just ask. Thanks for viewing. Update. The item is being re-listed. The reason for the re-listing is that the vehicle was involved in a minor accident after I had accepted the previous buyer's offer of 2500.00. The vehicle was sitting in a parking lot at my place of employment and someone backed into it. You can see the minor damage in the last photo. The Vehicle was originally listed for $3000.00. I accepted an offer of $2500.00, so thats what I have listed it for this time.
