The 3 Series E36 convertible is a four-seater that drives pretty much as nicely as the acclaimed saloon it's based on, suffering little from the shimmying and shaking that afflict other drop-tops. The driving position is good and all major controls respond crisply. The steering is sharp and there’s plenty of grip provided the the tyres are good. The excellent hood keeps out rain and road noise, and you should be able to find one with electric operation, which was an option on most models. The manual hood is a nuisance to work, but there’s less to go wrong. Mechanically, the Convetible is the same as other 3 Series, so spare parts are easy to obtain and there are plenty of specialist garages to fix it at fair prices. The E36 chassis M3 was touted as one of the best handling cars of the 1990s in independent tests by Car & Driver. Known for its benign handling and balance, the car is popular amongst circuit racers and track enthusiasts. The E36 was also one of the first cars BMW designed mainly with computer aid with the use of detailed Finite Element Analysis and other software. The M52 and S52 engines were on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list from 1997 to 2000. The S52 engine, used in the 1996-1999 E36 M3 and in the 1998-2001 E36/7/8 M Roadster/M Coupe for the Canadian and USA markets, is based on the M52 engine (in other markets, the equivalent engine was a 3.2 litre version of the S50). For every year of its production, the E36 was named in Car and Driver Magazine's "10 Best Cars" list (see Car and Driver Ten Best), unlike the E30, which was never listed in the 10Best. For the U.S. (and later Canadian) market, the M3 received its own powerplant, the S52, plus ASC+T traction control and a host of chassis upgrades. Both versions were also treated to a few cosmetic alterations.Where was the E36 M3 3.2 introduced? The 3.2-liter E36 M3 was first shown at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show. The North American-spec version did not appear until the 1996 New York International Auto Show. Where was the E36 M3 3.2 built? All 3.2-liter E36 M3s were built on the regular 3 Series assembly line at the Regensburg factory near Munich, with the exception of a small batch of M3 3.2 sedans built in BMW’s Rosslyn, South Africa factory from both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Complete Knock Down (CKD) kits. The remaining balance is due within 5 calendar days of making the deposit. You must fax or email us your State issued driver’s license after you make the deposit. We reserve the right to keep your deposit and resell the vehicle to another buyer if final payment is not received within 7 calendar days. As final payment for the vehicle, we will accept a certified bank check, bank loan check, wire transfer, or cash. We will not release the vehicle and/or title until funds clear. If you pay cash, you can pickup the vehicle immediately. If you pay by wire transfer the vehicle will be available for pickup once funds are available in our account. If you pay by bank check, you will have to wait nine (9) business days until the funds clear. 7. Title Information: Vehicle titles may be held by banks or lenders as collateral for loans.
