Vehicle Detail

1972 Prosche 914 1.7 L RELISTING DUE TO A NON-PAYING BIDDERThis is a well maintained 1972 Porsche 914 1.7L 4 cyl. I use this as a “daily driver” in the summer. It is stored in a heated garage during the winter months. I bought the car from a friend who owned it for about 10 years prior, and he had the car shipped to Michigan from California. To the best of my knowledge, the car has never seen snow/salt. The odometer reads 25010. I cannot verify the actual mileage since I am not the original owner. I would guess the actual mileage is 125,010 but I have no way of knowing for sure. You are bidding without a guarantee of the actual mileage. I will try to represent the car the best that I can. Please ask any questions before bidding. The Good About 2 years ago I went through the car and sorted out a number of items. New Pirelli tires and Fuchs-style rimsNew wheel bearings/racesNew brake pads and rotors, rebuilt calipersNew Bilstein shocksAdded front sway barSealed gas tank with POR-15Replaced all fuel linesNew front defroster blower motorReplaced heat exchanges with a better set. I still have the originals and they are included.New mufflers (Monza tuned exhaust)New interior carpetRebuilt carburetors (Weber 34 ICT dual carb setup)New electronic ignitionNew plugs/wiresNew Targa-top sealInstalled Neoprene seat covers over the existing vinylInstalled fog lightsInstalled new speedometer cableReplaced transmission shifter bushingsDrained and replaced transmission fluid (Swepco 201)Included are the original spare, jack, and tool kit. Also included are a NOS Sachs clutch disc, a set of valve cover gaskets, and some other misc minor parts (oil filters, gaskets, etc.)Front European license plate is not included (sorry, this was a gift).Things that still need some attention Speedometer: I replaced the cable but the speedometer does not work. I suspect that the issue is the gear in the speedometer gauge itself. These are readily available on the internet for a couple of bucks. Just have not had time to sort this out.Dash: The previous owner added a dash cover over the original dash. Not sure why. It looks okay (see photos) but it could look a lot better with a little adjusting and fitting.Engine: Sometime in its life the fuel injection system was replaced with a dual Weber carb set-up. The car runs great but it does require some carb adjustment from time to time. No issues but you should be knowledgeable in carb adjustment or be prepared to learn. The Weber 34 ICTs are incredibly simple carbs so this is really straightforward.Engine: The engine has the usual small oil leak. It does not require oil between changes, so the amount is pretty small. But it does drip a little.Transmission: The transmission is solid but I think the 1st-gear synchro ring probably needs to be replaced at some point. Nothing urgent – it shifts fine. You just need to pause when shifting from reverse to first gear. This is not difficult to do and they are readily available on the internet for less than $100. Transmission: The seals of the right-angle speedo drive need to be replaced. These are also available on the internet for a couple of bucks and this is really easy to do.Targa: The new seal on the Targa top squeaks a little. A little silicone spray resolves this issue but you need to reapply on occasion.Body: this is a daily driver so there are a couple of dings and minor scratches. Nothing significant but I want to be clear this is not a show car. It has been re-sprayed at least once and the paint is bright and shiny but not perfect.Horn: The horn does not work and needs to be sorted out. I am not sure if it is the horn itself or the horn button/clock spring in the steering wheel. I do have the original horn that is included. The Porsche is being sold as-is without any warranty. Please ask all questions before bidding. I will not ship the car so you are responsible for all shipping and transportation. If you arrange for shipping I will be available to meet the shipping company but all shipping is your responsibility. A non-refundable $500 deposit due within 24 hours of winning bid. NO EXCEPTIONS. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT PAYMENT YOU WILL BE REPORTED AS A NON-PAYING BIDDER. Balance is due within 7 days and payable at time of pick-up. NO EXCEPTIONS. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT PAYMENT YOU WILL BE REPORTED AS A NON-PAYING BIDDER. Note: Pick-up is available only on the weekend. Please contact me in advance to arrange a time for pick-up.
