The first 100 or so corvettes built in 1954 were hand laid fiberglass, identical to the 1953 bodies. This is one of them. Purchased by the 2nd owner in 1957 with only 3600 miles on it. He cared for the car for 55 years until he sold it to the 3rd owner in 2013. The 3rd owner had plans of restoring it but never got around to it. I purchased the car last year and the current original miles are just over 39,000. It has had one repaint in the 60's in red, otherwise car is completely original. This car has had no bodywork except for a very small scrape repair on the P/S front bottom apron piece between fender and guard. Very superficial and original rivets still remain. (detailed pics show area) The rest of the body is original with no repairs. The Mesh pattern of these early cars is still evident throughout. No rust on chassis minus some superficial surface rust. All original numbers matching drivetrain, chrome, glass, side curtains in bag, top, trunk mat, and floormats. Even has its original shocks. Recently the carbs and tank were cleaned out and wheel cylinders were rebuilt. The car runs and drives great, all gauges work except for the fuel gauge. You would be hard pressed to find a better original example of a very early corvette. This is the 370th corvette ever made, #70 built in 1954. The first 100 or so corvettes built in 1954 were hand laid fiberglass, identical to the 1953 bodies. This is one of them. Purchased by the 2nd owner in 1957 with only 3600 miles on it. He cared for the car for 55 years until he sold it to the 3rd owner in 2013. The 3rd owner had plans of restoring it but never got around to it. I purchased the car last year and the current original miles are just over 39,000. It has had one repaint in the 60's in red, otherwise car is completely original. This car has had no bodywork except for a very small scrape repair on the P/S front bottom apron piece between fender and guard. Very superficial and original rivets still remain. (detailed pics show area) The rest of the body is original with no repairs. The Mesh pattern of these early cars is still evident throughout. No rust on chassis minus some superficial surface rust. All original numbers matching drivetrain, chrome, glass, side curtains in bag, top, trunk mat, and floormats. Even has its original shocks. Recently the carbs and tank were cleaned out and wheel cylinders were rebuilt. The car runs and drives great, all gauges work except for the fuel gauge. You would be hard pressed to find a better original example of a very early corvette.
