Vehicle Detail
For sale is a well-maintained, mechanically sound 1997 Mercedes Benz S500. This is the second to last year of this larger body S Class. V8 rear wheel drive, with 315hp. Fantastic riding vehicle. Located in Northern NJ. The car is driven daily. It is not a collector's car. There are minor scratches and small dents on the body, which is expected with age. The original wheels (show in pictures) do have scuffing and scratching on them. I do have another set of after market wheel (summer tires) that are less than 1 year old and will be included in this sale. I purchased this car from the original owner in 2010. The car has very low mileage for its year, and all mechanical repairs and routine maintenance were completed by an independent Mercedes-certified mechanic. The engine is mechanically sound, and has never given me any problems. The care has never been smoked in, and has been garaged since I've owned. The driver's side seat has some tears in the leather. There are minor scuffs on the passenger side seat. The center console does have some scuffs and scratches on it. The rear seat separator is in perfect condition, but does not open (storage, cup holders). Cosmetically, perfect leather. Overall, the interior in in good condition. The buttons for automatic locking and trunk opening do not work. Aside from those, all electronics work as they should. Heat and AC work well. The radio is an aftermarket blue tooth unit which I had installed. The sound through the stock Mercedes sound system is fantastic. The unit also plays CDs and has inputs for IPhone charging, etc. Part of the volume knob is missing, but everything works fine on the radio. A check bulb light is showing on the dash. This should be a simple bulb replacement. The original owner had 2 8volt adapters put into one of the dashboard compartment. It works well for charging phones, garmins, etc and it is out of the way. All weather black floor mats are Mercedes brand. The car's exterior has been painted black, and looks really sharp. The original color was champagne (brown/tan). The original color can be seen on the inside of the doorjambs. The driver's side power seat adjustor, which is located on the door, has one edge that is slightly sticking out. The control work fine in adjusting the seat. There is a plastic cover that goes underneath the front seats to hide some wiring, etc. The driver's side cover has come loose. It is intact, and currently in its correct position. I'm not sure if it needs to be glued down, bracketed, etc, but it has not been a bother to me. I have included all of the above as an honest assessment of this car. I am not a mechanic or autobody expert by any means. The car has been driven daily by me since 2010. Beautiful looking care and really meant as a cruiser. Solid steel heavy construction and the hughe V8 with 315 hp makes this car glide effortlessly down the highway. Of course, this car has the expected acceleration and handling of a true S Class automobile. The car is straight and solid, and has not been in any accidents. I had the front bumper and fascia replaced last year, due to scratches, scuffing and paint peeling. I also had some small rust spots professionally removed last year. The car is really a thrill to drive, and still has people looking at it. I get a lot of questions about this car. Low mileage, well maintained executive S500 1997. They really don't make cars like this anymore. This was the model, and year, in which Mercedes did not put a price on developing these elite autos. Masterful German engineering. This car can be used as an everyday driver for another 100k miles, or a small amount of work can really update this vehicle. The reserve is reasonable. Happy bidding, and I hope that she goes to an owner who really appreciates this vehicle. Please contact me with any questions.
