Vehicle Detail

Saffron Yellow Lotus Elise in excellent condition with 29,399 miles. I purchased this car from the second owner in August 2009 when the mileage was 26,500. (The second owner purchased the car in December 2008 when the mileage was 25,300.) The car has been very lightly driven (under 3,000 miles in over 5 years), just gentle cruising--it has never been tracked or driven in any way that has stressed the engine or chassis. The engine, transmission and suspension are all stock with no modifications. Features include air conditioning, MOMO leather sport steering wheel, 6-speed manual transmission, sport seats with adjustable lumbar support, carpets, power windows, matching factory hardtop with storage bag, a simple-to-remove convertible top, a customized car cover for interior use (not waterproof so cannot be used outside), and a JVC KD-NX5000 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) navigation/DVD receiver with RM-RK250 remote controller. This car has been exceptionally well maintained and is in excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically. Maintenance includes: (February 2010 at The Collection, Coral Gables, FL; mileage 27,442) Oil and filter change, brake flush, coolant flush and replace thermostat, replace air filter, replace front brake pads, top off all fluids; (February 2012 at Prestige Imports, North Miami Beach, FL; mileage 28,149) Replace door lock control unit, replace rear brake pads; (February 2013 at Prestige Imports, North Miami Beach, FL; mileage not noted) Lotus Recall 2012/01R (oil cooler line rectification kit) and Lotus Recall 2012/02R (correct the erasing of the electronically stored VIN during re-programming of the ECM). A new DIEHARD battery was installed in July 2010; a battery cut-out switch is installed to disable the battery when the car is not in use for long periods. The car comes with one key and fob, a second (un-programmed) fob that I purchased, an Elise owner’s manual, and a manual for the JVC receiver. I will also include pdf files of the Elise owner’s manual, the Elise workshop manual, and the Exige/Elise parts list. In common with other Elise owners, I have removed the small front side grilles, as I believe it enhances the front look; both front side grilles and their mounting hardware are included in the sale. The car was involved in a front-end accident in August 2006 when the mileage was approximately 11,810. There was no structural/frame damage, the airbag did not deploy, and the car was repaired to as-new condition. An alignment was performed at that time, and the brakes and wheels were checked. The previous owner had a full independent inspection done before he bought the car and I also had the car inspected when I purchased the car; there is no evidence of this accident apart from some slight overspray underneath the car from the fiberglass repair. The successful winning bidder must telephone (508) 904-7453 within 24 hours after the auction has ended to verify purchase and make arrangements to complete the transaction. Full payment must be received either by cashiers-check, approved bank draft, or certified funds within three business days of the end of the auction. If funds are not received, and an alternative arrangement has not been made, the vehicle can and will be made available to other potential buyers. The purchaser is responsible for all shipping charges. The car is being sold as-is with any existing faults, whether known or unknown. There is no warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. The above description is accurate to the best of my knowledge. I am a Lotus enthusiast—I also own an Esprit Turbo, Eclat and Elan +2S—and this Elise is as good as they come. This is a fair price for this car given its excellent condition and low mileage. If you have any questions about the car or its history, please call me at (508) 904-7453. With regard to the low AutoCheck Score for this car, the About the AutoCheck Score link on the AutoCheck Vehicle History Report tab shows no Positive Factors and two Negative Factors—an Accident (severe) and Mileage (actual or estimated). Yes, the car did have a front-end collision back in 2006, but the car was fully repaired and checked-out at North Point Motorcars of Georgia (alignment performed and brakes and wheels checked) on 11/20/2006, as reported on the CARFAX Vehicle History Report I obtained when I purchased the car. (I will include a copy of this report with the sale of the car.) And the Title and Problem Check in the AutoCheck report states, “No damaged title or major damage incident record” (my italics), “No rebuilt/rebuildable title record”, or “No salvage title or salvage auction record”. (These statements are correct—the previous owner had a clear title and so do I.) AutoCheck is contradicting itself—a ‘severe accident’ but no major damage incident report? With regards to the ‘Mileage’ issue, the car has a recorded mileage of 29,399, which the AutoCheck Odometer Check reports as correct. How can 30,000 miles in over 9 years be considered a negative factor? There are other 2005 and 2006 Lotus Elise cars on eBay with much higher mileages that don’t have negative mileage reports; for example, a yellow 2006 Elise with 44,700 miles (starting bid price $30,000 miles, Buy it Now price $35,000) and a Saffron Yellow 2005 Lotus Elise offered by Lotus of Bellevue with 35,000 miles (Buy it Now price of $36,950). The CARFAX report on my car stated that the car had ‘Low Mileage’. I believe my car has a low AutoCheck score because of the AutoCheck Vehicle Use and Event Check, which states one Accident record reported, duplicate title records, and loan/lien records. Yes, there was an accident back in 2006, but this was fully repaired and inspected, and that was 17,589 miles and over 8 years ago! Looking at the AutoCheck Detailed Vehicle History report, it states a second lien was reported and a duplicate title was issued on 01/10/2006. This is less than three months after the first lien and registration event on 10/19/2005. Really? CARFAX does not report this second lien and duplicate title on 01/10/2006, although it does report a duplicate title issued on 07/31/2007 when the registration was renewed. CARFAX does not report any second lien on the car at any time. While financing companies are conscientious when issuing and recording liens, they are less than rigorous and somewhat confused in reporting a satisfied lien to the regulatory authorities. The bottom line—the previous owner had a clear title and so do I, there is only the one title on this car, I have it, and there are no liens on this car. I would also note that apparently AutoCheck does not take into account any service, maintenance or recall records. In AutoCheck’s defense, these events are probably not reported to AutoCheck. CARFAX does report these events, as evidenced by my CARFAX report. I do have, and will provide, the service reports from The Collection and Prestige Imports (both official Lotus service dealers) for all service, maintenance and recall events performed on my car while I have owned it. When summarizing the vehicle’s overall condition, I believe that such records should be taken into account, and AutoCheck does not or cannot do that. (Would you want to drive a car on which an oil cooler line recall hasn’t been performed?) Given the car’s mechanical and cosmetic condition, and its maintenance history, I would give the car a score of 89 or higher on the AutoCheck scale—but then, I’m the owner and know how the car has been driven, maintained and looked after.
