Vehicle Detail
Intro: For your consideration is this extremely nice 2003 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible in Medium Spiral Gray metallic color (available for only two years) with 48,200 miles on the all original chassis, engine, transmission, etc. This is a two owner vehicle, the second owner having owned it since early 2004 with the ‘Vette having only about 8,000 miles at the beginning of his ownership (the first owner traded it in to a Cadillac dealer in Georgia, for a Cadillac XLR, which is where the current owner purchased it). This is a well-cared for vehicle that has been stored winters, never driven in snow, and has been garage kept. The owners used it as a secondary vehicle for enjoyment. This example has desirable options such as the 1SB Convertible Equipment Group (heads up display, power telescoping steering, memory power seats, and dimming mirrors), QF5 Polished Aluminum Wheels (with new BF Goodrich tires on them right now), and the nice upgrades of a K&N intake and an amazing sounding B&B cat-back stainless exhaust. This is a get in and go ready to enjoy vehicle that is in excellent mechanical and excellent cosmetic condition. It is a pleasant vehicle to drive offering great comfort but also performance. Please view the 9 minute long HD video clip, 175 photographs, and detailed description below. Video: A 9 minute long high definition video is provided to better show the condition of this 2003 Corvette. The video footage was taken on 11/15/2014. To view the video please click play below or copy and paste the link. http://youtu.be/aPSOMsLAcnkThere are a few different sections to the clip:1.) Exterior walk around shows the excellent condition of the body, straightness of the body, quality of reflections in the paint, great condition interior, etc.2.) Start up (starts up right away easily), accessories working, and misc., odometer3.) Interior driving clip, drives smooth, pleasant and comfortable cabin (note: microphone for the camera is mounted near the exhaust so the interior is not as loud as it would seem) 3.) Exterior driving clips showing reflection in the finish, transmission shifting as it should, car stops as it should, engine runs as it should, and sounds amazing! Exterior: The finish on this Corvette is extremely presentable. The color is a dark metallic silver-graphite type color named by Chevrolet: Medium Spiral Gray. From what I have found, it was only offered on 2003 and 2004 Corvettes. The color suites the convertible very well, looks slick, and contrasts nicely with the red on the emblems and the polished rims. Condition wise it in better than average condition for the mileage and age. There are very limited areas that show use, are superficial, and are not distracting. There is nothing that would be consider a significant flaw in the finish that is distracting or warrant repair. The front lower fascia has the typical but VERY minor and limited nicks, bug guts, and etc. The hood is great and does not have notable markings. There are the typical, and very limited on this example, minor “kick up” type nicks behind the wheels. There is nothing that would be considered significant to note. The finish has the glossiness it should, lacks significant texture, no peeling, no cracking, etc. The next caretaker of this ‘Vette will only find reasons to be very happy with the finish on this example. It is an excellent color and is in excellent condition. The body on this Corvette is also in excellent condition. With the fit, finish, the way the doors open and close, and etc., it is difficult to tell this is a fiberglass body. All panels line up extremely well. When looking down the side of the car, it is very straight. All the panels open properly with functioning latches and handles/buttons. The doors close with a nice thud. The front emblem has a couple spots with the coating peeling and the back emblem is good. All four polished rims, while not perfect, are in excellent condition without curb rash or oxidation. All of the glass is the original glass. The convertible top and back window are in excellent condition without notable wear. The convertible top storage panel also is in excellent condition and functions properly. The auto dimming mirror on the driver side needed replacement and has been replaced with a “normal” heated mirror. The trunk lid opens as it should and is in great condition. The trunk storage area is very useable with even more space under storage lids. The engine bay looks as it should and could use minor detailing if one was so inclined. Again, there is not much one could find fault with in terms of the condition of this Corvette’s finish and body. It is extremely clean, well taken care of, and presents very nicely. Interior: The interior on this Corvette is in just as beautiful condition as the exterior. It is a very comfortable place to be and aids in the driving enjoyment. The driver side bolster is in great condition for the mileage with present wear only being some slight discoloration from use. The only other notable, but also insignificant, wear item in the interior is a cracked piece of plastic on the driver side, behind the driver seat, where the convertible top mounts to the car which is pictured. Other than that, the interior presents as though it has not even traveled 48k miles. Door panels are great, both seats are excellent, carpet is great, steering wheel is excellent, dash is excellent, center console area is great, etc. Both driver and passenger seats are power seats and heated. The driver side is a memory seat. When the vehicle is turned off, it backs up and allows for easy exit and entry. The seats are extremely comfortable and make this ‘Vette a great touring machine. Compared to many sports cars, the 2003 Corvette is easy to get in and out of. The factory Bose stereo is present and sounds great. Driver and passenger climate control is present and is functioning. The demanded 1SB Convertible Equipment Group brings with it the very nicely done heads up display (it reflects a digital speedometer and other info on the windshield for the driver) and power telescoping steering column for even further adjustability and comfort. The interior on this ‘Vette is a good place to be. It is extremely comfortable, surprisingly quiet, and is in extremely nice condition! Mechanical: This Corvette has never needed any significant mechanical attention nor needs any significant mechanical servicing now. The drivetrain on these cars are rock solid. Mobil 1 synthetic oil has been used and changed regularly every year. The tires are new (95%+ tread remaining!) high quality BF Goodrich KDW performance tires in the proper stock sizes (245/45/17 front, 275/40/18 rear). This ‘Vette drives down the road exactly as it should. Just turn it on and enjoy. It starts up fast, without smoking, without sputtering, without any goofiness, just a nice smooth V8 rumble. It has excellent oil pressure, runs at the proper temperature, and etc. It goes through the RPM range properly, pulls hard, and sounds absolutely intoxicating with the addition of the K&N intake and B&B cat-back stainless exhaust. The transmission shifts as it should and the differential does not exhibit any funny business. The drivetrain is solid and performs as it should. The suspension is surprisingly comfortable but still exhibits a sporting ride. It is plenty comfortable for extended touring. The suspension and steering feels tight, lets the ‘Vette go straight down the road, no odd noises, etc. The brakes are excellent, smooth, and not in need of attention. The A/C functions very nicely as does the heat. No electrical gremlins. Windows go up and down, gauges, work, power antenna works, etc. Headlights function properly. Again, this is a get in and go Corvette that has been very well taken care of. Conclusion: There are a good amount of Corvette convertibles to choose from. This example brings neither surprises nor needing any kind of mechanical or cosmetic attention. Its finish was only available for two years, is classy, in excellent condition, and compliments the car nicely. Don’t expect to pass another one on the road in this color. This Corvette has the great 1SB package including the very practical heads up display. Driving enjoyment is greatly increased with the addition of the B&B exhaust to truly let the V8 sound like it should. 2003 was the 50th anniversary of the Corvette and this example has the badges and logo on the speedometer representing that. This is an excellent driving and very comfortable machine. It has been owned and well taken care of by the current owner for the past ten years, almost since it was brand new. Due to the excellent condition, options, mileage, new tires, and other considerations, we have tried to price this 2003 Corvette Convertible fairly at $19,650.
