Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit with a 1.9L Diesel Jetta engine/transmission, with no leaks. I cannot recall whether it is a four or five speed. This car was a project that we purchased from a family friend, he was a young man and had too many projects. We took it on and had it running, but, a job offer out West meant the car had to stay as we did not have enough drivers and tow vehicles. After arriving in Colorado, we decided to sell it after recieving quotes to ship it were too excessive. It's had much of the hard work done, and it's ready to go to some lucky fellow to be completed and cherished, just as it should be. As it stands the car runs, but requires tuning as it will stall during use, due to what we suspect are missing crank-case venting/PCV hose(s). The injection pump was cleaned and serviced by a knowledgeable shop in Zionsville. It has a new starter, battery, rear-tires, glowplugs, fuel, oil, air filters, radiator, pads and front rotors, both outer tie rods, motor mounts, rear shocks, pressure plate and clutch. I removed the valve cover to check the injection timing and the top of the cylinder head was clean as a whistle. The body of the car is in nice condition as well, with minimal rust and bondo repairs. There are scratches and a dent on the left front corner. As for the body's finish, the "custom dark blue paint job", aka blue spray paint, will need work. The original color is yellow. I did not know much about VWs/Rabbits, but, came to realize these little things are built like tanks. The structural rigidity of the chassis is impressive. The driver and possibly other doors will need new hinge bushings. The ignition key and door keys are different. The door handles will need to be reinstalled. The car will need new front tires, exhaust and front struts to make it road worthy. The inside of the car needs some work, such as replacement carpet, ceiling fabric and door panels. The hood release will need to be replaced, the hood needs to be opened with a screwdriver to unlatch. The seats and dash are in good condition. The odometer has been replaced, so the mileage is unknown, but, the clock works. But there are interior trim pieces that will need replacement or repair. The outer trim panel for the glove box will need to be installed. The rear-driver-side window has considerable scratching from an unknown source, (I think a dog?) and the front driver glass, I think has some scratching, too. The front windshield has a small chunk missing due to questionable methods of rear-view mirror removal by the prior owner. It has a CB antenna mount on the roof. The battery may not have a charge and the hood, as mentioned before, may be difficult to open. If you are knowledgeable of these cars it may not be a problem. I have tried to describe this car to the best of my memory and ability. I am sure that I have forgotten some details, but, the bulk of the description is good. Title in hand. If interested in bidding, please keep in mind it is sold AS-IS and it should be inspected to YOUR satifaction. It has sat since August and was running at the time. The car has been stored in a fenced storage facility West of Zionsville Indiana since August. Please contact me with any questions and to set up times for inspection. The storage yard is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:30 sharp. This car is being sold locally and we reserve the right to end auction early. Buyer is responsible for moving vehicle. 50% due within 24 hours of close of auction, balance due before or during vehicle pick up. Thank you for looking.
