Vehicle Detail
1948 Willys CJ2A. I purchased this Jeep around 7 years ago. I jumped right on this Jeep when I first saw it because it was all completely original, still had several of the really hard to find parts, was completely unmodified, had of all the original ID plates, and came with a clear Maryland title. Almost impossible to find anything that old the way it came. The original color was "Normandy Blue" and "Sunset Red" wheels which were still visible on certain parts. I originally purchased with the intent to do a ground up restoration. Here is everything you need to know.... Starting with the body....I started by having the tub and every panel sand blasted and primed. The tub was very solid to begin with. I replaced the front floors pans, floor supports, part of the trans tunnel, and floor riser. The shell was good and only had to make a few panels which can be seen in the pics. Both front fenders, grille, and hood are in really nice shape! The windshield frame needs some attention, however, still solid and includes the original inner frame. Includes all 3 seat frames which are in very SOLID good condition! The rear seat frames are becoming harder to find. I replaced the gas tank with a brand new one including the sending unit. The rear floor is very solid and has very little "waving". The rear wheel wells are also in great shape. It came with the original "NACO" glass tail light lens, housing, and original reflector. I have all the original brackets and spare tire mount which are all in very good shape. I removed them when repairing some of the panels. Still has some body work to finish, but not much. Frame/suspension.... I had the frame sandblasted and painted. It is in great shape and straight as an arrow! I replaced the entire suspension with new leaf springs, shackles, and shocks. I also replaced all of the hardware with grade 8 bolts. I kept all the original hardware for the hardcore restorer. Comes with 4 original 16" Kelsy Hayes wheels which have been powder coated red, and brand new NDT tires which I purchased from Coker tire. All of the brackets and cross member are all included and are in great conditions. Brand new motor and transmission mounts are included. Drive train..... The motor was completely rebuilt with mostly NOS parts from Willys Overland. 0 miles on motor since rebuild. The transmission and transfer case have also been completely rebuilt by "Herm the overdrive guy". For those that are not familiar, he is one of the best in the country! This Willys also has a complete PTO set up! Spicer PTO off the transfer case which was cleaned, blasted, and replaced seals, really nice PTO DRIVE SHAFT (really hard to find) with new seals and bushings, and rear PTO gear box with new seals. I also dissembled both front and rear drive shafts, sand blasted, and replaced all of the U-joints and seals. Both front and rear axles were completely taken apart, steam cleaned inside and out. New bearings, seals, flexible brake lines, brake shoes, springs, and hardware! The ring and pinions were in really nice condition which are 5.38 gear ratio. I purchased a brand new complete exhaust system from manifold back which is included. All of the other parts under the hood have all been sand blasted and painted. Many in excellent condition. The original radiator has been tested and is in great shape. I also disassembled the steering box and replaced the seals. I will post pics of the motor soon. This is an excellent project for someone looking for an vintage Jeep! To complete this project in a nut shell....assemble the drive train, run brake lines and wires, fluids/grease, and finish body work. Most of the hard work is done and most of the parts you need are included. I am selling because ive been staring at it in this state for 6 years. My heart just hasnt been into it. Im sure ill regret selling it and I know Im taking a big loss. I easily have over $7000 in this. I did not cut any corners or spare any expense. I have countless hours of blood, sweat, tears, burns, scars, etc from this old girl. Id rather see it go to a home where it can be completed and put to use. I have receipts from all the parts I purchased and from some of the work that was done. I kept all the original hardware and salvageable parts that was replaced and have several boxes of parts on the shelves which are not pictured. If you need to see something special, just ask. I also have some nice manuals and books which I will include. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am sure i'm forgetting some details. Good luck and dont miss out on this great opportunity!
