Vehicle Detail
For Sale 1982 Subaru Brat in GOOD condition for its age. We purchased this car from an elderly gentleman few years ago, who decided to downsize from a full size RV to a small camper. He purchased it from the original owner in Southern California when the car was 10 yrs old and with less than 100k miles on the odometer. Since then, he towed it behind his RVs and literally toured every major city from Anchorage to Key West. The odometer/speedometer stopped working at 241k miles but actual driven miles is under 120k. For the past 15 yrs it had been parked in his garage and only driven occasionally down the street to purchase hay . It came with an ugly camper shell and a brush guard with towing attachments but they have been removed during my ownership. The paint is faded and has minor dents and blemishes throughout the body. There is a small area of surface rust on driver side door jam. T-tops function perfectly and keeps the interior cool and breezy. It came equipped with A/C but currently nonfunctional. The interior is in great shape except for a few cracks in the dash and where the original owner had altered the center console with an oversized radio. It has been replaced with a cup holder to cover up the opening. Center consoles for this vehicle is compatible with GL wagons commonly found in junkyards. The seats are flawless without any rips or tears. The Brat drives great. The engine revs effortlessly and cruises well at freeway speeds. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts well except for the slightly tricky 4th gear. When shifting into 4th, you must keep pulling on the shifter as you release the clutch or it will pop out of gear and grind. Once in gear, it will stay there. A new shifter linkage should solve the problem if desired. The steering components feel very tight and drives straight with almost no vibration at freeway speeds. When I took the car for a test drive, I knew immediately that his claims were true. This car really has a lot less miles than what the odometer showed. Tires have some tread left but they do show some cracks in the sidewall.Jump seats have been removed by the original owner who used it as a camper. This was my 3rd Subaru Brat, and I purchased it with the intention of restoring as a daily driver but we have new additions in our family and must cut down on my hobby vehicles. Registration is current in CA and passed smog on the first try when I purchased the vehicle.Vehicle is sold as is.
