Vehicle Detail
If you're looking for a C3 Corvette from the mid-70s, do yourself a favor and make sure you read all the way through and look at all the pictures, this car is one of those rare few Corvette's that hasn't been messed with, has been taken care of and is a beautiful 38-year-old car. I own this car, it is registered and insured and I drive it every few days. Just to the store and on short errands, but I wouldn't hesitate to get in it and drive it anywhere. When I was a little boy, my father had a couple of Corvettes and I loved them. When I was old enough and had saved enough, I bought my first car ... a 1977 Corvette. That was around '93. The car was buried in weeds and I paid $5,000 for the car. I spent roughly $20,000 more restoring the car and sold it a few years later. It was a lot of work and I lost a little money, but that car always held a special place to me. That's why I jumped on this Vette when I found it. It was the same car, just nice, clean and original. A car I could drive and be proud of without having to do much of anything to. I bought the car from a man who owned it for 10 years. He bough it from a neighbor who owned it for the previous 14 years. The car only has 74k miles on it and has spent most of it's life just sitting in one garage or another. That doesn't mean it was neglected. Actually, it was maintained regularly and when ever little things needed fixed they were fixed. I have the receipts for things like a new A/c compressor, a tranny rebuild and a new radiator and brakes. When I got the car headlights weren't working as they should and the brakes felt a bit soft. I replaced every single component of the headlight vacuum system, to include switches, hoses, regulators and actuators. They can be a real pain and these are completely fresh. I also had one caliper replaced that had a small seep. The tach had stopped working so I put a new circuit board in the tach and it works great now, as do the other gauges. The clock works but the second hand sticks. It needs blown out with compressed air but I forgot to do it when I replaced every bulb in the dash with new bulbs. The dash, seats and such are all solid and free of cracks. There are a couple of small cracks on the door panels, but these are repairable and replacing the door panels might be overkill since they are original. The carpet is original and in great shape. The car seals up great and the power windows work well. The car was repainted once, in the original color. It is a great paint job that is a few years old now. It by no means needs repainted. The car has a beautiful shine and the paint is really clean. There are some very minor blemishes, around emblems and bumper edge but you really have to be right up on it to notice. The car gets a ton of attention every time I drive it. Endless thumbs-up and compliments. Heck, I drove it to a big car show a few weeks ago for something to do on a Saturday and it won "Best Corvette" out of about a dozen of them. The trophy comes with it. The engine compartment could stand to be detailed and the manifold and valve covers repainted, but I left everything as it was when I got it. I figured why mess with anything as well as it runs and I also wanted people to be able to see how clean it was for not having been touched in 38 years. The Vette starts right up and drives great. The trans is strong and everything just works right. It sounds good and looks great. It's not the $30,000 movie star, but I challenge you to find a nicer original Vette for the price. I know just how hard that is and how much junk is out there from looking exhaustively myself. If there was one thing I would do it would be to replace the trim for the battery and storage compartments behind the seat. The plastic is cracked and it just doesn't look as nice as the rest of the car. I found the complete assembly complete with trim and carpeted doors for about $150. Drive it or show it ... or do both. You'll love the car and so will everyone else that sees it. If at some point you want to do a full restoration, you couldn't ask for a nicer car to start with. And a great color combination. I really hate to sell it, but I didn't have a wife and three kids when I bought the first one. I've enjoyed the nostalgia of this car, and truly hate to sell it, but need to be practical. I really hope it goes to a good home, someone who will appreciate it and enjoy it. I do have a few little odds and ends that come with it. The old headlight parts, new arm rests, old headlights and it even has the original build sheet with it. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
