RARE find in this condition--all OEM parts and adult driven (not raced or customized). NADA VALUE IS over $6000!!!! Here's the good news: This is a great looking, never wrecked, 1989 civic DX Hatchback that I bought to restore and use as a commuter, which I have been for the past six years. 50 highway miles per day put on it and if I drive it gently, I can get almost 40 MPG. It had 200K well maintained miles on it when I bought it and after about 250K miles, it finally lost compression in cyllinder 1--it was still drivable, but rough on only 3 cyllinders, so I bought had professionally installed a brand new D15 B engine from JIS Engines out of Arlington, TX. Broke it in correctly and have been running nothing but 0W30 full synthetic oil. The new engine was professionally installed by my local mechanic here in Atlanta, GA for a total cost including the engine of around $3500--all receipts will be included. The car now has 270K miles on it. I also added some ground effects, tinted windows new stereo, plus a few embellishments such as new front seats from a 2000 civic and a center console unit from an acura. Car drives great and looks great--has a couple of amateurish-looking fender repairs from what appear to be past dents (before I bought it), but never wrecked or anything--it's not a show car, but a commuter and from 10 feet, looks great. Paint is shiny, but roof has some light staining on it (can't see in photos). I am selling only because I was recently given a late model lexus RX300 last week by my inlaws and my wife won't let me keep the little honda anymore--too many cars in the driveway. Here's the bad news: I am guessing due to improper torque on the head bolts during the engine installation, it has developed a head gasket leak over the past 6 months. You would never know this if you drove the car around on surface streets, where it drives like new, but if you take it up to highway speeds for 30 minutes or more, the temperature starts to rise. I have never let the car overheat and the head gasket is still intact, but you will want to put in a new head gasket ($30 part) if you plan to drive the car at highway speeds. If you are a mechanic, this is the best deal you will ever find since I have over $7000 in this little car but am listing the car with no reserve. If you have a professional mechanic pull the head and put in a new gasket, he will charge you somewhere around $850-$1000, so keep that in mind if you bid and plan on having someone else do the gasket. Know that the car does not have a blown head or any engine problems--doesn't smoke or affect performance etc. When the head is pulled to put in the new gasket, you will find a pristine engine inside as I stated above, so it doesn't need a rebuild--just the new gasket. Additionally, a nusaince I have been dealing with for a couple of years is pulsing headlights (not uncommon for an older car). This causes no problems with performance, but does have an intermittent pulsing of the headlights--sometimes it does it when the car is cold and goes away when warmed up. I have been driving it like this for a couple of years. I do have a lifetime warranty on the alternator at Pep Boys, so if it bothers you, any Pep Boys nationwide should put in a new alternator at no charge if you want to do that. It's never bothered me that much. Feel free to come test drive it. Winner can drive it away, but as I said, I wouldn't plan to drive it at highway speeds or for more than 45 minutes, or the engine temp will start to rise. It could be driven for short distances (I have let the car idle for an hour without any rise in temperature, for example). Of course you can have the car shipped to you as well. GAs mileage is incredible--30 MPG around town and up to 40MPG on the highway. straight, tight and good looking commuter car looking for a good home. I am a "full disclosure" kind of guy so would want anyone to know what they are getting with no surprises. Good Pirelli tires with Honda OEM 14 inch alloy wheels (off a prelude). Oh one more thing--the rear hatchback lifters are gettin a little "tired," so especially in cold weather, they have trouble holding the hatch up. This is an easy fix. All the heavy lifting has been done with this restoration. With very little TLC, you will have a VERY nice looking and well running high MPG car. I am listing it locally for the cost of the engine and installation ($3500), but the NADA value is $6000. Don't let it get away if you are looking for a Civic from this era.On Sep-28-14 at 18:13:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Answering questions: A/C is like new--ice cold. New Sony SX-S300BTX stereo and speakers. Everything works: rear wiper and washer, front washer, defroster, windows etc. brakes recently done and alignment. New struts and axles done when motor put in. window tint is the good kind--3M lifetime. On Sep-30-14 at 07:29:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Wow--you guys are good. Yes that steering wheel is off a Civic SI--I thought it looked nicer than the original wheel so I replaced it. Also yes, the DX did not come standard with the digital clock, so I bought one for $100!!! and put it in myself. The interior now with the new seats and the Acura center console makes for quite a nicer experience than the standard Civic DX interior. BTW, I drove the car around for an hour last night and no overheating...On Oct-02-14 at 06:25:25 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: There is only one other 1989 civic DX Hatchback for sale in the whole country on Auto Trader right now and it's listed for $6,250! Go look at it online...the seats are trashed. I paid $800 for just the seats in mine. MY CAR IS A STEAL.On Oct-02-14 at 06:30:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Did I mention I also paid $750 for the OEM Honda alloy wheels (came off a prelude)...the $6,250 honda on Auto Trader has steel wheels and covers!! I am getting offers for $3000 cash locally and waiting to see if auction gets above that before selling. Don't let it get away...
