Vehicle Detail
This auction is a very rare 323 ci I8 powered 1935 Chrysler Airflow 2 door coupe. The car has been in Oklahoma for many years stored in private collections awaiting a turn to be reborn . The car is very complete and sound was running when parked in the late 80's but we have not tried to fire the engine at this time. The body has a light coat of satin black on the surface and the original color would appear to be a dark blue . The American flags on the front fenders are just for pictures but the car was said to have been used on a U.S. Military base and had similar flags on the fenders at that time. The doors, floors, frame, cab and all vital structural areas appear in remarkable solid condition and not rusted like most 80 year old cars can be. I have some parts for the car that are not in the pictures such as the wiper arms ,air breather ,passenger tail light and a few other items that will be included with this sale. This car would be a very nice car to enjoy and has been kept from the elements many years . When surfing the internet you can find a great deal of information about these cars but finding a 1935 Chrysler coupe for sale is hard to do . The production numbers I have researched will show that Chrysler built 307 of these coupes in 1935 and few remain in existence today . I am not an expert on these cars but I have spoke to some very knowledgeable friendly Airflow owners from the car club who feel this is a very worthy car to build. Please call or text for more information 405-473-3204 the car has a clear title and is available for transport here in Oklahoma City. BELOW IS A BIT OF INFORMATION THAT CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THESE CARS....... These cars are extraordinary to see and came with a 115bhp, 323.5 cu. in. inline eight-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with overdrive, solid front and rear axles with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and Lockheed four-wheel power-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 123"Chrysler’s Airflow was a brilliant, revolutionary creation with the promise of cutting-edge design and aircraft-inspired technology, yet it suffered from the detrimental effects of the Great Depression. Today’s collectors and enthusiasts appreciate these radical cars for their many advanced design elements that foreshadowed the modern automobile. Credit for the Airflow is rightly given to engineer Carl Breer, who with Owen Skelton and Fred Zeder formed Walter P. Chrysler’s “Three Musketeers”. Its streamlined shape was the result of groundbreaking wind tunnel research, and its semi-unitary “truss bridge” chassis was based on contemporary aircraft construction principles. The eight-cylinder engine, placed directly over the front axle, allowed the seats to be located entirely within the car’s wheelbase, resulting in a roomy passenger compartment and a remarkably smooth ride. In 1934, racing driver Harry Hartz recorded 72 AAA-sanctioned speed records while driving a Series CU Airflow Coupe, which was similar in size and layout to the exceptional example offered here. 307 examples originally produced and it is believed that around six are remaining in existence.
