Vehicle Detail

1971 Chevrolet corvette convertible 350 Positrac auto Numbers Matching Rust free Frame-off restoration 1 THIS IS A GREAT DRIVING CAR WITH ALOT OF CURB APPEAL AND HAD A FRAME OFF RESTORATION A FEW YEARS BACK. I WILL TELL THE STORY OF HOW I CAME BY THE CAR AND WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE HISTORY. I HAVE A NCRS DOCUMENT SHOWING THE CAR WAS SHIPPED TO DEXTER CHEVROLET IN DETROIT MI. The OFFICAL BUILD DATE IS MARCH 12TH 1971. I HAVE ORDERED A REPRODUCTION WINDOW STICKER TO GO WITH THE CAR IT SHOULD BE HERE IN A FEW DAYS. THIS CAR MUST HAVE LEFT THE STATE BECAUSE THE FRAME IS NICE AND ROCK SOLID. 2 I bought the car out of Nebraska from the person that had a body shop and used car dealer business. He told me when he had the car off the frame he went through the 350 motor and transmission. all of the suspension shocks, brakes, lines and bushings were replaced. The frame was rust free, so it was cleaned and repainted. The car was driven alot before it was then painted. I will let the pictures tell the story. The stainless looks very good and the rear bumpers were rechromed at some point. The 350 run better than most 300hp autos out of 1968-1970 models the CJK code on the block on some web pages show the code as LT1 with turbo 400 auto trans. From what I read in NCRS there is some controversy. I am not saying it is a LT1 but I will add a paragraph out of the NCRS judging guide for 1971 to read. I will list the paragraph after the suffix codes on the block. I will also show pictures of the casting date codes, and vin numbers plus the build dates too. It takes more than just a stamp on the flat pad to make it a true matching numbers car. 3 This car looks great, not quite a show car but very presentable. I love the RED LINE FIRESTONE RADIALS they cost more than BFG's. and it drives great. I purchased this car thinking it was ready to go, but I have put alot of money and man hours into it. I have driven the car around town and it is a very dependable driver. 4 They are over 80 high definition pictures of all angles and close up. Please bear with the time it takes to load them they are worth the wait. 5 6 7 I took this picture before I cleaned the inside of the top frame. 8 I AM A RETIRED FARMER AND I HAVE SOLD ALOT OF CARS ON EBAY WITH 100% FEEDBACK. I HAVE SOLD SIX TO EIGHT A YEAR UNTIL A YEAR AGO WHEN I HAD NECK AND BACK SURGERY THAT HAS SLOWED ME DOWN. I WILL LIST THE CAR AS IT IS. IF YOU LIKE THE CAR AND WANT TO MAKE ME AN OFFER OR HAVE QUESTIONS PLEASE CALL ME. I CAN WALK AROUND THE CAR AND ANSWER ANY QUESTION IF YOU CALL ME 870-930-6104 AT FROM 8AM -7PM CENTRAL TIME. . 9 I take alot of pictures so you see the car in all light scenarios so you know what the car really looks like. I use full sun, partly cloudy and fluorescent lighting and I take some that may seem repetitive but you see the car as it looks. My pictures are just as they come out of the camera, not run through any type of photo enhancing program. What you see is what you get. 10 11 12 The door gap on this side is not as close as the driver's side. 13 I TOOK THIS PICTURE TO SHOW THE SCRATCH. THE DISCOLORATION ABOVE IT IS JUST A REFLECTION OFF MY CAMERA FLASH. 14 15 16 I HAVE REPLACED THE LIGHT THAT SHOWS OUT IN THIS PICTURE. 17 All motor numbers are after the next motor pictures about page 51 or so. 18 The car starts with ease and holds a good oil pressure and runs nice and cool with a new aluminum radiator, all new hoses and belts. It has a new O' Reilly super start battery and all new filters and oil just serviced. The fuel lines are new as well. 19 THE DASH CONSOLE AND DASH LOOK GOOD. THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK. 20 THE CARPET BACK AND FRONT HAS BEEN REPLACED AND THE DRIVER SEAR SHOWS SOME WEAR, BUT NO TORN PLACES. THE DOOR PANELS ARE ORIGINAL AND DO SHOW SOME WEAR AS WELL. 21 22 23 24 That is a clear rear window. 25 These radio are old and will not run today's speakers, so the radio needs to be replaced with a late model from Ebay. For $400 you can get a real good system to your personal taste. The radio is just setting in the hole not bolted in. 26 27 28 29 The chrome tail pipes are new. The bumpers were rechromed at some point and very presentable for a driver. 30 31 THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. 32 THE PAINT WAS FRESH WHEN I GOT IT SO IT HAS ALMOST NO PECKS OR CHIPS. THIS IS A VERY NICE DRIVER. IT WAS NOT PERFECT WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY. I LOVE THIS CAR BECAUSE THEY WERE AROUND WHEN I WAS A PARTS MANAGER BACK IN THE DAY. IT DOES HAVE A FEW THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE IT BETTER. AS I SAID THE RADIO AND WIPER DOOR IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. THIS A BEAUTIFUL CAR WITH GREAT PAINT. 33 34 35 If you have any questions, just call me 8 am to 7 pm central only 870 930 6104. 36 37 38 39 40 The reflection of my camera and the trees. The emblems are new and cross flags new as well. 41 I HAD THE TOP REPLACED AND THE LABOR COST ALOT MORE THAN THE $300 TOP ITSELF. 42 43 ALL THE GAUGES WORK EXCEPT THE CLOCK. THE TACH WORKS UP TO 3000 RPM'S THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS AS IT SHOULD. 44 IN THE SHADE, THE CAR LOOKS DARKER. 45 The trim tag shows the 982 with a 400 black int. and the production date as H 12. The car was originally a white car and was painted Mille Miglia red which is 983 code and is a 1971 color. 46 47 48 49 50 51 Notice the new aluminum radiator has not been painted black and the car runs great. 52 53 The date codes are in the proper order for correct numbers matching. 54 Reproduction window sticker. 55 The vin. number is 194671S112058 19=chevy 4= V8 67=convertible 1= 1971 S =St Louis built 112058 was production number it was made in MARCH 56 THE LAST SIX NUMBERS OF VIN 112058 MATCH THE A PILLAR POST AND THE TITLE . THE NEXT SET THE V =CHEVY SMALL BLOCK 03O1= THIRD MONTH AN1SI DAY AS MARCH 1,1971 AND THE CJK= 350CU INCH 270 HORSE WITH A TURBO 400 AUTO TRANS. THE PAINT WAS THICK IN SOME OF THE NUMBERS SO I USED A KNIFE TO MAKE THEM SHOW UP WITH THE CAMERA. The next pictures have to tie the casting numbers and trim tag date together and date code to make sure they are correct to verify if they are correct. 57 The number before the S is 671 = converitble and the year 1971 58 I highlighted the statement about the CJK stamping. GM did not keep the best records in 68 and 72 for Chevelles and Cameros. I am thankful that Corvettes have better records. NCRS has done a great job with what records GM has turned over to them. 59 CASTING NUMBER 3970010 IS CORRECT AND USED IN OTHER YEARS TOO SO THAT MEANS THE DATE CODE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BELL HOOK UP HAS TO BE CAST BEFORE MARCH AND IT WAS. The B 27 1= FEBRUARY 27TH OF 1971 AS SHOWN IN THE NEXT PICTURE. IT IS ALWAYS HARD TO GET GOOD PICTURES OF THESE NUMBERS WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED. THE 4TH PIECE OF THE PUZZLE IS THE DOOR TAG INSIDE THE DRIVER'S DOOR SHOWS THE BUILD DATE AS H 12 THAT DECODES TO MARCH 12TH DAY IT WAS BUILT. ALL THESE NUMBERS ARE IN THE NCRS GUIDE RANGE OF PROPER ORDER TO VERIFY CORRECTNESS. 60 Date casting # B 27 1 61 The trim tag in the door shows H 12 as the build date. The production of 1971 model cars started in August of 1970 so they would be on dealer lots in September 1970 so the first car in AUG would be a A and September a B and so on till March of 1971 that would be a H . The NCRS judging guide shows the serial number 110886 to be the ending of Feb. and 112058 to fit correctly to verify the block stamping to the door production number. 62 63 64 The grill and chrome is nice. 65 66 67 The top guy said it would tight up some after it is in the sun awhile. 68 I took all these picture before it was put on the rack and the fender wells were touched up to cover up the over spray of primer. 69 70 71 72 73 All the tail lights are very nice and the marker lights too. 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 photo IMG_3212.jpg" src="http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/VALJOE1996/1971%20corvette/IMG_3212.jpg" border="0"> 82 83 The stingray emblems and cross flags as well. 84 ON THE TOP LEFT THAT IS A REFLECTION NOT A PECK OR FLAW. 85 86 87 88 89 I change the oil and filter and greased it while it was on the rack. 90 The power steering was added and the undercarriage had alot of money spent on it. The car drives great and it is rust free in all the spots that rust up first. The rear wheel kick up area is very nice. 91 I sprayed the undercarriage and then pressure washed it. Water drops are showing on valance panel. 92 93 Lots of new parts and money was spent on the undercarriage 94 95 I have a wiper motor and vacuum motor for the wiper door that is not working. Please give me a call for more information. The wipers and door do not work.
