Vehicle Detail

1972 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTBLE WITH MACH 1 AND GRANDE PARTS I bought this car in 1988. This was originally a 6 cylinder convertible. I had Grande and Mach 1 parts cars that I took parts from. The car was originally in the Dallas area and has been here in Houston since 2000 when I moved here. I put the Mach 1 parts on it because I thought it looked nice. Ford did not make a Mach 1 convertible that I know of. I used some Grande interior parts, and initially used the Grande motor and transmission. WHAT IT HAS Exterior – It has a functional Mach 1 ram air. I have the vacuum lines on the ram air actuators currently disconnected but they held vacuum last I tried them. I had it painted over 20 years ago, so there are typical scratches and dents. The car has been kept garaged for 75% of those years. There is also some rust showing around the rear brake lights. Engine – I put in this 351C a few years ago. It’s a 30-over motor, 10.5:1 compression, forged pistons, 290/300 Lunati cam, Mallory MSD ignition. I bought the better heads but I can’t remember if they’re the quench heads. I also added the factory aluminum valve covers. I currently have a performer intake and 3310 carburetor. I had tried a torker and double pumper but never was that good at tuning it. The exhaust is headers and flowmasters. I had also put on the windage tray to keep oil off of the crank, and a MPG 351C oil kit that puts more oil into the heads. Transmission – It’s a C4 with a mild torque converter. I had it rebuilt and installed it a few years ago to replace the FMX and drop some weight. It vibrates a little at mid RPM so it needs some adjustment. Front disc brakes – Power brakes - Power steering - Air Conditioning – The air conditioning was working when I disconnected it a few years back to install the new motor. There is a on/off switch for the compressor that was mounted under by the glove box. WHAT IT NEEDS Convertible Top – The convertible top is torn at a pinch point where the mechanism pushes on it when folded down. The rear plastic window is also cloudy. I replaced the pump before so that’s okay. Floor Pans – I had bought new carpet and underlayment. I decided not to install them because the floor pan needs replaced first. The lower rear quarters were professionally replaced 20 years ago. Tires – The tires are 15 years old. I drove the car less than 1,000 miles a year, but the tires probably need replaced. Driver Side Mirror – That mirror bracket broke several years ago. I bought a used replacement but never got it painted to put on. OTHER EXTRAS I had bought upper a frames but never installed them. I changed springs a couple of times when I put in the different motors. I have the full length center console with the clock in it. I never put it in. I purchased a tilt column several years ago. I also never put it in.DISCLAIMERObviously the car is sold as-is. I have given you the best description that I can think of. Feel free to ask questions, come by for a drive, request more pictures, etc. Thanks.
