Vehicle Detail
Intro: For your consideration is this highly upgraded 1974 Triumph TR6 that has received thousands of dollars worth of new parts in the past couple of years. The engine is still the factory 2.5L inline six cylinder engine but it has been modified for higher performance with the addition of higher compression, triple carburetors, roller rockers, and more. This originally from Texas TR6 is very solid and presentable. It would make a very fun driver. There is still some tinkering to complete so it would be a good match for a do-it-yourself kind of owner. Please view the video, photographs, and detailed description below to get a good idea on the condition of this TR6. Video Clip: A 6+ minute long high definition video is provided to better show the condition of this TR6. The video footage was taken on 8/10/2014. Please click play or copy and paste the link to view the clip. http://youtu.be/_97V92iKSqEThere are a few different sections to the clip: 1.) Walk-around shows the presentable condition of the exterior and interior. The paint has a nice bright color, decent reflection, but not of Concours quality. 2.) Interior driving clip shows the car drives well, engine sounds great, runs very nicely, and transmission shifts great. 3.) Exterior driving clip with a hood view also shows this TR6 runs and shifts well and shows the quality of the reflection in the finish. Images: 100+ high resolution images of this TR6 are hosted via PhotoBucket. The pictures were taken on 8/10/2014. All of the pictures can be seen by either clicking the slide show below, clicking any of the sample images below, or copying and pasting the web address:http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/OldSkoolFool83/library/1974%20Triumph%20TR6 Images include exterior condition, close ups, interior, engine bay, underbody, and etc. Please look through all of the images. Exterior: The finish on this TR6 overall is in nice condition and is presentable. The finish is more of driver quality and looks very nice from about 10 feet away or while the car is in motion. Closer inspection reveals some lack of details. The prior owner had this TR6 professionally painted. The TR6 has traveled less than 200 miles with this current paint job. Due to the car having not traveled far since the re-paint, there is limited wear. Chips and dings from use are basically absent. There are some spots of wear from storage such as some minor surface scratches on the trunk lid that could be buffed out and scratch on the driver rear wheel well that could be touched up. An experienced and detail oriented automotive enthusiast, or automotive painter, closely inspecting the finish will find some of its limits. There are some areas of overspray on the car, more so limited to the under body. There is one run in the paint that I found and it is on the passenger quarter panel but not too noticeable. When kneeling and looking down the side of the car, there is some minor texture that can be seen. Wet sanding with 2000 grit then buffing would result in a much higher quality reflection although is not necessary. The paint as it is still does reflect and is presentable. I tend to be overly critical about vehicle finishes. The pictures and videos show very well that the paint overall does look very nice. The red paint is very vibrant and matches on each body panel. The finish is still plenty presentable for this TR6 to be enjoyed at car shows or club events. Overall it is a very attractive finish that suites the car well. The prior owner shipped this car up from Texas (also noted on the title), where it spent most of its existence. Because of that, this is a very solid example that has a very nice straight and solid frame. The spots where the rear control arms mount are very nice as is the back of the frame, which are common issues on these cars. Please see the pictures of those spots. Also, this TR6 does not exhibit the common “butt sag” that results in the gaps at the tops of the doors being significantly wider than at the bottom. The original driver floor was cut out and replaced with a new one. The passenger floor is still excellent. One possibility with these classic British cars is that the convertible top leaked on the driver side which resulted in a need to repair the floor. The trunk floor looks great and looks to be original. The rockers, door jambs, and bottoms of doors look solid. To be closer to factory specification the rockers could be masked off and sprayed black. Another common rust spot is the fronts of the fenders and these are solid. Another impressively solid area is the seam where the quarter panels meet up with the panel with the fuel filler cap. The rest of the underbody and wheel wells look very nice as well and not in need of repair. This is a very solid TR6. The body panels overall are straight and do not exhibit evidence of significant prior damage/repair. Gaps are about what is to be expected on a Triumph although the doors could be adjusted to decrease the gap at the lower back corners. I do not personally see evidence of the rockers having been replaced but the stainless trim piece that runs along the top of them could line up a little better. This example has the nicer bumpers without the huge black bump stops. Chrome overall is presentable and exhibiting some typical minor aging. Lenses, other trim, and so on are fine. The engine bay overall looks nice. Brand new convertible top needs to be installed yet on the convertible frame which will then need to be installed on the car. A, what looks to be original, top cover is present and could use a cleaning. Wiper arms and sun visors are present and could be installed yet as well. Wheels are upgraded, new, and look excellent on this car! The “knock-offs” can be removed and replaced with center caps if one wanted to do so. One of the “knock-offs” fell off and got damaged, so could either be reinstalled as is or replaced. What you see is what you get. This is an overall very presentable vehicle with a very solid body and frame. Interior: The majority of the interior has been replaced so almost all new. All dash pad pieces have been replaced and look great. New wood (walnut?) for the dash and it looks absolutely beautiful. New, upgraded steering wheel. New seat covers, door panels (passenger side has a scrape), and material behind the seats. Carpet is new and could use a vacuuming/cleaning. There are a few minor things yet to be completed in the interior such as the installation of the window cranks, inner door handles, glove box, and carpet that installs in the foot area. These parts are present, just need to be installed. Gauges overall look good but are not perfect. As stated, some completion is yet needed but the interior is in excellent condition. Mechanical: Here is a list of what has been upgraded and replaced on this TR6: -Upgraded Triumph TR6 engine, within past 4 years: professionally fully rebuilt, slightly bored over, higher compression, upgraded camshaft, roller rockers, triple carburetor and intake manifold upgrade, cold air intake w/ custom air box, upgraded valve cover, spin on oil filter -New battery 8/2014 -New high torque starter 8/2014 -New Electronic ignition, new coil, new cap and rotor, etc. -New clutch/pressure plate & slave cylinder (can’t remember if flywheel has been upgraded) -Upgraded to metal radiator shroud -New radiator hoses, new overfill bottle -Newer/upgraded dual exhaust (Monza if I remember correctly) -New aluminum wheels -New Pirelli tires -New/upgraded SPAX tube shock conversion for the rear -New brake master cylinder and brake calipers -New cross drilled and slotted rotors -New oil pressure gauge line -New wiring harness -Boxes of other parts included-Also included is a tow bar that connects to the front of the frame of the TR6 and then the ball on the hitch of the towing vehicle. As stated, this TR6 currently runs and drives but is not 100% sorted. There are some things that need finishing up. Here is a list of the main tinkering that could yet be completed: -Oil pan gasket should be replaced. From what it looks like, the car can just be jacked up and oil pan dropped without removing anything else. One or two bolts are missing which has caused the gasket to leak. The TR6 can be driven, as shown in the video clip, but before being regularly driven, this should be addressed as the leak is getting over the underside of the car and can get on the exhaust, and makes a fun mess. -Install oil breather hose from valve cover to intake manifold -A new wiring harness was installed. Some sorting of the new harness needs to be completed. For example, temperature and fuel gauges are currently not operating (to check for fuel, one can at least temporarily look down into the tank and see how much fuel is in). Turn signals and brake lights do not turn on. The headlight switch was checked with a multimeter and looks to be operating properly but a couple wires disconnected in the engine bay need to be connected to get the headlights on. -Interior door handles and window cranks install (I have these) -Convertible top and frame install ( I have these) -Window scraper rubber install (I have these parts) -The doors need the stoppers installed otherwise they can be opened too far -Radio install (have a new Sony radio) -Wiper arms install (have the arms, could use new blades) -Install sun visors (have these) -Install new battery hold down (have this) -Hood release needs adjustment. A recommended fail-safe hood release has been installed and works great in the mean time -Tachometer is intermittent -Speedometer needs a new cable This TR6 starts right up very easily, most often on the first try from cold or hot, and without the chokes on. It idles on its own nicely and sounds healthy. The oil pressure gauge works and oil pressure is excellent throughout the RPM range. The engine runs nicely while being driven as well. The dual exhaust sounds slick. Cooling system is in proper functioning order. Clutch pedal feels good. The transmission shifts excellently! Absolutely no grinding. No issues noticed with the rest of the drivetrain. The suspension seems fine and is on the softer side. There is a squeak sometimes from the front suspension over bumps. The brakes work well and as they should. After addressing the oil pan gasket and sorting out the brake, turn signal, and head lights, this TR6 should be a joy to drive. Conclusion: This TR6 has many significant upgrades and new parts. It has a very solid body and frame with a recent presentable paint job. Inside and out, this is a very nice example that would make an excellent driver and vehicle for an enthusiast to take to club events and shows. Some more time is needed to finish up some details and it has been priced with this in mind. The title is clean, in my name, and does show it was from Texas. I am selling because I recently acquired a vintage race car that is requiring my attention and also have a couple other personal sports cars to take care of and enjoy. Something has got to give on my end, and at this time, it is the TR6 so it is now listed for your consideration. With consideration for this TR6’s very nice and solid exterior cosmetic condition, practically new interior, and significant amount of upgrades/new parts, I have tried to set the asking price fairly at $8,600. Serious buyers are welcome to contact me with any questions. Preferred calls are between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM central time. Clean title in my name.
