Vehicle Detail
This is a Red 1984 Fiero that has been converted to Electric Power. No Gas Required. This was Refurbished and purchased from Green Motors Inc. in Ariz. The 9" Advance DC Motor was rebuilt and reinstalled. The Battery Racks were Power Coated. Originally the Battery racks did not have any hold downs, these were frabricated and Power coated. Controller is a Curtis-PMC 1231C-7701 550A. It is mounted under the Car where the Fuel tank was removed. It is mounted on an aluminum plate as an Heat Sink. The Zivan 120V Charger is also mounted under the car, where the fuel tank use to be. The 3 Prong Adapter is mounted in the fuel door.Just plug into a 120V outlet to charge. The Car has 4 wheel Disc Brakes, the car brakes are vacuum assist, an electric pump was installed in the Eng. Comp. Due to the additional weight of the Batteries, the suspension Springs were updated and Re-alligned by a Suspension Shop. The AC still works and runs cold, it runs off a fan belt attached to front shaft of an electric motor. The power window mirrors and front headlights work fine. The Heater is a Ceramic core, runs from the battery pack and is activated by a red switch located in the instrument panel. There is an Amp. Meter, Volt Meter and Curtis Fuel Gauge. These are for monitoring the shape of the electrical Drive. The red paint is good, there are a few small cracks in the fiberglass, but nothing major, the window molding on the passenger side should be replaced. The Max range is 50 miles and the max speed is 75 mph. The transmission is a 4 speed, but most of the time, you will only use 2 gears, you will start off in 2nd and then switch to 3rd gear for around town, the only time I used 4th is when I had it on the Hi-way at 70 mph. The reason I am selling this Car is because I could not get it registered in Ct. If I had told them I wanted to reg. a 1984 Fiero, there would have been no problem, but because I told them it was an electric vehicle, they didn't know what to do, In Ct. your suppose to get just one temp licence, they gave me 3 and in the 3 months that I drove the car, I drove to work (20 miles) and had it up to 70 mph on the Hi-way. When Ct. finally gave me the rules for an electrical vehicle, one of them was it could not exceed the Gross Vehicle weight ??? There are 20 TrojanT-145 6 volt batteries, each Batt. weighing 70 pnds, how can I not exceed the gross vehicle weight?? This Car was registered as an Electric Vehicle in the State of Ariz. If I were in any other State, Mass, RI, N.Y. there would be no problem. In Ct. it seems, when they sat down to come up with laws governing electric vehicle, they didn't put much thought behind it. I can meet the weight requirements if I were to switch to Lithium Batteries, but I do not have the money or the space to do it. So I deceided to sell the car. I purchased the Car for $10,000, spent another 2-3000 on improvements, including Bigger front Brakes, and newer interior. the Batteries are now about 7 years old and are starting to go, so I knocked off $2000 from the already low reserve bid.
