Vehicle Detail

This is definitely a story vehicle. The car was sold or traded to a used car dealer who put the car in storage for 6 years before I bought it in 2004. He planned to keep the car and hopefully have it increase in value. The dealer became ill and transferred the car and I bought it. When I bought the car it had about 65,000 miles on it. I saw the car with a “For Sale” sign on it at a house and stopped to check on it. It was in a long driveway. The seller was installing a new battery when I drove up and said he didn’t know if it would start or not. I was the person who turned the key and it started within 2 seconds and purred and sounded like a Corvette should. Unfortunately the brakes were very weak and all I could do was drive back and forth in forward and reverse in a long driveway. It drove fine in forward and reverse and didn’t make any unusual sounds. I bought the car and had it towed to a person recommended by someone I work with who would be able to do the mechanical and cosmetic work and put the car in like new condition. His orders were to do nothing but fix the brakes so that I could drive it a few blocks or miles and make an ultimate decision how much money I would be willing to spend on it. I bought the best available parts to replace all components of the brake system; including all stainless lines and parts and vented rotors and had them delivered to be installed. I believe the guy doing the work drove the car before fixing the brakes and bumped the front end. Disregarding my directions, he removed parts of the front end and told me he had determined that the v-shaped piece of metal supporting the shape of the front bumper was bent and needed to be replaced. He then removed other engine connections and raised the engine to reportedly commence painting the engine compartment. The car was significantly disassembled before the brakes were fixed and I could test drive it. The car was on high ground, under a carport and about 60 miles north of New Orleans when Katrina hit in August of 2005. The car was exposed to no water or flooding. This guy lost interest in working on it. I had the car towed to New Orleans where a car enthusiast I had helped and who owed me offered to do the work in his spare time. I was in no hurry. He led me to believe he was working on it slowly and making progress. I trusted the guy and didn’t even go look at the car since about 2007. This year he told me I had to pick it up and take it somewhere. I had nowhere to take it so took it to a storage yard. He had done nothing but let the car deteriorate. I am just too trusting. The car was and may still be a great project. I think most everything is there. I believe the carburetor is missing and the glass on the driver’s side t-top is clearly cracked. The passenger side rear wheel looks to have been flat for a long time. The hood is detached and the lower front rubber bumper piece is not attached. I would love to see someone save the car but I believe the parts value alone has to be substantially more than my low bid requirement. I have to sell it as is. There is no warranty. If you have concerns or questions, it is your responsibility to elect to view the car or ask questions that I will try to answer. However, ultimately, if you win the auction the car is yours as is. I took the pictures myself. Please disregard the chain link shadows on the car. Some of the pictures were taken on a very sunny day with the sun and a chain link fence behind me. I think the body, while dirty, is pretty smooth (my opinion). This is a “NO RESERVE” auction. The successful bidder must pick the car up or arrange for its shipping. I will help by meeting someone at the car. All payments should be by PayPal and the winning bidder must pay at least $750.00 within 36 hours of the end of the auction and the balance before pick up or delivery. The successful bidder must pick up the car or have it picked up within 10 days of the end of the auction.
