Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on an elegant 1949 Packard Custom 8 - top of the line. Very rare burgundy interior with many factory options. The massive "egg crate" front grille is said to have taken 8 hours to assemble at the factory. The Cormorant hood ornament indicates that this is a Packard, because nowhere on the car can the name be found. This was a Packard sales pitch, as you should know a Packard by its distinctive design. The interior is mostly original, with just the seats recovered. The carpeting is mostly original and is in excellent condition. The woodgraining is also original, and the door panels are original wool with leather trim. The original headliner is stitched from front to back instead of side to side, to enhance the beauty of the interior. ( The following year Packard switched to side to side headliners.) Also, the woodgraining on the door panels and the 356 engine would be gone in 1950. The speedometer -odometer cluster is surrounded by gold-tone trim, indicating that 1949 was the golden anniversary year of the company. (This was not offered in any other year.) The seat springs are surrounded by burlap and stuffed with down, and the tension is adjustable for the passengers' comfort. There are six interior lights and the instrument panel has glow lights. The windshield is surrounded by chrome and set off by a beautiful ivory-toned steering wheel. There are transparent flaps on either side of the interior to block drafts from bothering rear passengers. Other accessories include factory fog lights, factory back-up light, vent shades, curb feeler, and electromatic clutch, signified by the red clutch pedal. The 356 cubic inch, 9 main bearing engine runs flawlessly, and has been taken on many tours. Starts quickly, even after driving all day. The Packard is equipped with Caribbean wire wheels with cloisonne enameled centers. The side mirrors were made especially for this model, with each side having its own "swan neck".
