Vehicle Detail

This classic 1970 Honda SL350 KO Motosport is an original, unrestored, survivor in amazing condition. I purchased the bike from a friend of mine whose father had bought it new and then stopped riding a number of years ago. When he parked it, he drained the gas from the tank and carbs, put oil in the cylinders, and covered it in the garage. I bought a 1973 SL350 K2 new and always liked these bikes and told my friend that if he ever wanted to sell his to let me know. Well, a while back he did and I bought the Honda. Unfortunately, some unexpected bills have come up and it would help if I sold it. This SL350 is somewhat unique in that it has always been adult owned (I'm 62) and almost all of its 10,174 miles have been on the street. It has been maintained and cared for its whole life. The Honda still wears its original Candy Sapphire Blue paint which is very striking and I feel one of Honda's prettiest colors. The bike still has its original Dunlop Trials Universal tires which have held up surprisingly well with only light cracking. I did replace the seat cover with a correct reproduction because the original was getting a few splits and did not look up to par with the rest of the bike. I also repainted the exhaust pipes as they had accumulated some scratches and scuffs over the years. The mufflers on these bikes tend to get beat up but these are amazingly nice with no rust and only a very minor dent toward the rear on the left side (see photos). The rest of the bike is untouched to my knowledge. It is refreshing to see one of these SL's that is still virgin and some backyard "monkey mechanic" has not rounded off all the screwheads and bolts, repainted it with a spray can, and tried to make a cafe racer out of it. While the Honda is in extremely nice original condition, there are some flaws as you would expect from an unrestored 44 year old motorcycle. The most notable is the shallow, soft dent on the left rear of the gas tank (see photos). It did not break the paint and I think a good paintless dent removal person could get it out. Since the gas was drained out of the tank, the inside is exceptionally nice. The chrome still shines nicely but as is typical, the handlebars, gas cap, and taillight show pitting. The rims are still very nice. There are some scratches in the paint but I personally prefer original paint with some flaws to a repaint. Overall, the bike presents itself extremely well as the photos show. The cycle runs great. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and runs strong. The clutch is nice and smooth and it shifts flawlessly through all five gears. The gauges, lights, and horn all work as they should. The only mechanical thing that I am aware of that could use attention at some point is the carburetors should have kits put in them. When you shut the bike off, the carbs will drip gas for a few minutes. They don't seem to drip when the engine is running so it was never a high priority for me to rebuild them and I never found the time to do so. Other than the carbs, the bike is dry. The SL350's are not only fun to ride and aesthetically pleasing but are good investments as well. The first generation KO's are the only ones with electric start and in my opinion, are the prettiest of the SL's and the most collectable. As they say in the hobby, a vehicle is "only original once" and ones in this condition are the hardest to find and the most valuable to many people. The oldtimers out there like me may remember the radio ads that Honda did back in the early 1970's. The key phrase was "Get yourself a Honda, its built like a fine watch meant to run 100 years"... Here is your chance to do just that and enjoy many miles and smiles on her. The Honda is located in Payson, Arizona (85541) which is about 75 miles northeast of metro Phoenix. I will assist the new owner in anyway I can in getting the bike delivered to you. Please note that although I do not have the bike currently advertised anywhere else, I do reserve the right to end the auction early if bidding seems sluggish so please don't wait until the last minute to bid to avoid the possibility of finding the auction closed. I should also mention that although I have done my best to accurately describe the Honda, it is of course, sold as is with no warranty. And yes, the bike is currently registered and titled here in Arizona. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have. I can usually be reached most afternoons and evenings at 928-468-7060. Thanks for looking!
