Vehicle Detail

This bike was stored outside for most of its life before I bought it and it shows. I've stored it indoors for the last six winters. There's corrosion on some parts and rust on the exhaust. There are some paint chips that have been touched up. The odometer and trip meter don't work most of the time. When I purchased it, they were working and mileage was reported as 51,200 miles. I have probably put less than 2000 miles on it total since owning it. Actual mileage not known. The bike has the Sport option that was available when it was new. Consists of fairing, sport bars and a second front brake disc. It has heated grips that work fine, the original BMW saddlebags, a tool kit and an owners manual. Clock and voltmeter in fairing are functional. It has progressive suspension springs in the forks and a Koni shock. This is the mono shock frame. Battery is sealed, maintenance free, only a few years old and is good. I believe I'm the third owner. For the six years I've owned it, I've had no real mechanical issues. I rebuilt a leaking front brake master cylinder, replaced a leaking front fork seal and installed new steering stem bearings. I didn't care about the weathered appearance when I purchased it. I just wanted a reliable bike and it has proven to be that. Runs strong and handles well. I've considered a rear shock rebuild or replacement because I like the suspension to be on the stiff side and I've cranked in more preload on the rear. Damping is a little weak with a lot of preload but it's still a blast to ride. Pulls strong to redline in each gear. Doesn't burn oil. I've changed oil in the fall for each of the six seasons I've owned it. It still has the original tires on it from when I bought it and they have plenty of life left in them. You could take it all apart and restore it with the help of new parts here and there or just ride it as it is and not worry about the weathered appearance.
