Vehicle Detail
*** NO RESERVE *** NO RESERVE *** NO RESERVE *** NO RESERVE *** NO RESERVE *** NO RESERVE *** Up for sale is a classic and very original 1962 Buick Special Deluxe with 74,230 original miles. This survivor car has the legendary 215cid V8 aluminum block nail head type engine and comes with the desirable 3-speed on the column transmission. I purchased this car for my son in November 2011 at Turkey Rod Run in Daytona. My son used the car as his daily driver to go back and forth to school and also to his job. He is now going to college and will not need to use the car anymore, as he will live on campus. He is gone for the summer and the car is now parked at home without being driven… The car is in good condition and drives great. During the 2 and ½ years we had it, we made a few improvements to the car. We installed a new radiator and water temp gauge, installed a new clutch kit, new headlights, a new roof rack, rebuilt the starter, replaced the spark plugs, performed a tune-up, rebuilt the carburetor (which still has the original metal tag on it), installed three-point seat belts in the front and two-point seat belts in the back, and replaced the front wheels' brake cylinders. We purchased the car with 54,497 original miles and have added a total of 19,733 miles between Nov/2011 and May/2014. Car shows 74,230 original miles as of May 31, 2014. We believe we may be the third owner (counting the dealership that we purchased the car from) I don’t really want to sell it but it makes no sense to keep the car with us without being driven regularly. Besides I already have a classic car of my own. The car was originally painted in a desert sand metal color and was later repainted in metallic green. Inside the car and in some areas of the engine bay, you will be able to see the original color of the car. See the pictures... The car drives fine. My son used to take the car to trips around the Central Florida area with not major complications. Basic care was always important when taking this car on the road… Your typical checking of the water level, oil level and tires pressure level. In any case, as you may expect from a 52 year old vehicle, there are the areas of the car that may need your attention. Below I am listing what I believe are potential issues with this vehicle that may need attention down the road: Has long brakes (car brakes fine.. pedal is just low)Engine has an oil leak (believed to be from either the valve covers and/or intake manifold and/or rear main seal)Despite the replacement of the clutch kit, the car has a noisy clutchA couple of scratches/dingsMismatching paint color area in front fender A few spots with rust (small rust bubbles found in lower door panels, fenders, trunk edge, etc.) Front suspension is worn-out. Needs new shock absorbers Front bench seat has two rips (one large and the other one small) Both front quarter window weatherstrips are worn out and will need replacement Here are the "plus" factors on this car: All electrical components (including the factory original radio) work well Parking lights, back-up lights, blinkers, dome light all work as expectedLight car (compact uni-frame) with V8 power Strong acceleration. Numbers' matching car Does not burn oil Just rebuilt the original starter and replaced the battery in JanuaryHas the 3-on the-tree manual transmission with posi rear endSeat belts in front and rear seatsClean and original engine bayAll windows roll-up nicely. Car door locks work perfectSpeedometer works Really a fun car to drive Car comes with Chassis Service Manual book with over 200 pages of information about this great car. I also have the original Buick Accessories booklet and the Buick owner protection plan with the information of the original owner printed on the first page. The following URL shows a 25 sec video of the transmission shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear... Take a look: youtube.com/watch?v=Dop4Fccf_DQ&feature=youtu.be Just copy the URL in a new browser window to see the Youtube video.
