Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for action is a 98.5 Dodge 3500 No Reserve, this truck is a good looking work truck not a show truck and it ain’t stock. I’m the original owner it’s spent most of its life in high plains of New Mexico. It has one of the first 24 valve 5.9 Cummins Diesel in it with 3.55 gears in the rear. When the truck was stock it had 235 HP/425 ft # take a look at the dino sheet from a few years ago, 440 HP/1000 ft # at the rear wheels is equal to 550HP /1250 ft # at the crank. This isn’t a chip truck there is a balance of air & fuel to make power in a diesel. Listed below are most of the modifications I made to it over the years. Power Train Air: the hood scoop was functional imagine introducing fresh cool air from 4 feet above the pavement, sealed AFE Air box with life time filter (I’ll clean it before you pick it up) & Tube, Garret stage 2 turbo (36 lb boost), BD intake hoses & clamps, BD intercooler, BD Turbo guard blow off valve and ATS ArcFlow intake with 4 injection ports (ready for propane, NOS, Methanol…) Exhaust: ATS 3 piece pulse manifold, Garret stage 2 turbo, 4 inch down tube (came with the Garret) and 4” mandrel bent exhaust system. The fuel system: FAST Fuel System 90 gallon per hour (eliminates the lift pump & water separator), Hot Rod Injector pump, stage two 90HP injectors and a Van Akins 65 HP controller that plug in between the computer and fuel pump. Van Akin was one of the original designers of the Cummins fuel system. Power to the ground is great but when putting that much power down when towing in fifth gear is like throwing a hand grenade in the transmission (even after stuffing it with South Bend goodies) happened twice. The solution wasn’t simple: 15” flywheel, new clutch & pressure plate, fly wheel cover, bell housing, Eaton Fuller OD 6 speed out of a Freightliner, modified cross member, custom drive shaft and a stock Dana 80 rear-end (rated for 3000 ft #) THE SUSPENSION Almost stock but not quite: Rancho 9000 adjustable Shocks, Moog ball joints, Borgeson sheering shaft and a BD steering box stabilizer. The rear tires have less than 100 miles, the fronts have about 30% tread left also there are two un-mounted tires with 30% tread left (can you guess where they came from) THE CAB INTERIOR The AC system everything but the has been replaced. The interior is pretty much stock but, here are a few add-ons A-pillar gauge pod with boost and exhaust temp. pyrometer, HD steering wheel cover, trailer brake controller, Eclipse head unit with Sirius Satellite receiver & antenna (recommend new speakers), new plastic door liners not installed, dash mat, and a little red button (never push the red button). THE CAB EXTERIOR This is a good looking work truck not a show truck. The truck was re-painted in 2009 here’s list of a few of the body modifications: Fiberglass hood with functional scoop by Good Hood, Spider head lights, ¼ in thick Buckstop Bumper with driving lights, chrome plated steel grill (not plastic), Phoenix wheel simulators, I shaved the clearance lights to make way for the Lund lighted visor, etch ram head in to the rear door glass and removed the black sticker by the window & painted the little corner plastic trim on the door. THE BED The bed was built by one of our local welding shops it has: 4” main frame rails, 3” cross members, ¼” diamond plate deck, Reflex bed liner (won’t slip when wet), skirting and boxes are 3/16”, headache rack is 3” tubing and a 65 gallon auxiliary fuel tank was also made by the same shop. TOWING Short of a trailer requiring air breaks this truck was built to tow just about anything, although my wife says it built it intimidate. Towing accessories include: 2” class V receiver hitch, two 2” drop ball mount with 2 & 2-5/16” balls, two 4” drop ball mounts with 2 & 2-5/16” balls (if you need a 1-7/8 go buy a minivan), 2-5/16”, Reese hitch rails welded to the bed frame, Reese 20K goose neck hitch, Reese 16 K pivot head fifth wheel hitch, seven pin trailer plug at the back & center of the bed, trailer light adapter (7 to 6 and 7 to flat 4), also the front bumper has a 2” receiver built in. If you need a weight distribution hitch I have one for sale ($100). WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE TRUCK In 2010 about a year after the paint and body modifications I was hit by an unconscious driver, his insurance offered $6800 and total the truck. I turned them down so they had it appraised bad move on their part it was valued at $19,500.00 not including the new trans, so they had it fixed. The driver’s seat lumbar support won’t adjust and the back of the seat (tail bone) won’t go up or down. There are some cracks in the dash but no missing chunks, the driver’s door requires a key to lock & unlock, there’s normal wear and tear on the interior and the exterior chips & scratches.
