Vehicle Detail
This 1947 Ford Convertible is a 67 year old gem. It was built in late 1947 and is the latter body style of that year. It is solid and rides as well as a solid axle could be expected to ride. It starts easily and runs well. It has been covered and garaged in a heated garage for at least the last 12 years. Over that time it was never driven in the rain. The car was repainted in the original color (maize yellow) about 1990. This paint has held up extremely well and shows no sign of failure. There are three 2-barrel carburetors which have been installed on an Offenhauser manifold on the original engine. Because of its location on top of the engine, the original 6-volt generator was removed and replaced with a 12-volt alternator. The cloth top is new and tight. The plastic rear window is clear. The car is fitted with 5 new Coker wide white wall tires. The car originally had a single exhaust pipe which has been replaced with duel exhaust pipes that sound great. Most of the instruments work. The vinyl seats are in great shape and look new although they are about 13 years old. The interior looks as good as it did in 1947. The California Car Cover is included in this sale. Also included are a pair of fender skirts, dealer installed amber fog lamps, some magazine advertisements which appeared contemporary with the car, an original owners manual and an original radio manual. The car was never fitted with the optional heater nor has it ever had an oil filter, although it has an original radio, which works occasionally after the expected long warm-up period. There are however, two issues. The headlights don't work and the speedometer cable broke last fall. I'm sure a gifted mechanic could figure out the headlight dilemma, but I am neither gifted nor a mechanic.
